W208 CLK 230 K Oil filter cap

This is going to sound like a really silly question to some ( if not all of you)

How do you get the oil filter cap off of one of these cars?

On my C250, there is a big plastic bolt type head on it, use a big socket and it comes off!

On the CLK however, there is not any bolt head on it and the shape is almost completely round

Sounds like you will need one of the 'strap' type filter wrenchs. I use one of these on mine with the bolt type head and it works OK, just need to be careful the first time because if it has been overtightened you will see it distort if you use too much force, just make sure you don't break it. I think its a 36mm socket on a 202 diesel.

if its completly round then sounds like someone has rund it round and you need to replace it

Or a similar pattern tool if you like.

Its not completely round, its round enough to not have enough of an edge for anything to get it off, and i dont want to butcher it trying to get it off!!

I think i'll need one of those tools Will posted in the link below, i will try to search them as i'd like to see what the underneath looks like!

I have always use a big pair of parrot nose grips, and pack it out with a good few layers of rag, there not horrifically tight.
