W210 dash display problem bright orange

I've got a 98 W210 E300 and randomly my dash display keeps blocking out. Sometimes just over the characters and sometimes the whole display. I've got no dead pixels when it's all working. Anybody know what's up with this? It's driving me crazy.

Common fault, it's the ribbon that needs replacing

You can do it yourself, parts are cheap, or there are places that will do it but charge about £80-£100

Thanks bob. I wasn't sure if it would be the ribbon or not, I was hoping it was something simple like that but all the searches show dead areas and mines nice and crisp 99% of the time, just seems to be getting more often it's all lit up now. This is it most of the time.
Is it the replacement ribbon or would the shim packing work for this?

Actually, having read your post again it may not be the ribbon.

Aah ok, thank you. I did a couple of hundred miles over the weekend and 80% of the time it was fine even when hot, I couldn't find a pattern to it going hectic and being normal. I've had a search again and can't see anything on here that might help but I'm new here and might be missing something.

About your problem:

Tipical failure as you said is pixels missing, but as you said , its not your problem.

Have you found issue ???? My car is making same, when is hot all above display comes orange.... I am a bit confused with the problem and dont found info about.

Can anyone help me ???
