W210 E Class service cost Vs Smart

The older car gets 40% off labour and 10% of parts at MB dealer Tony Purslow in Basingstoke and although not cheap was good value for a B service including extra air filter and brake fluid change totalling £429 [hidden in there includes free MOT worth £53 and free basic MB breakdown cover worth £40?, so effective cost assuming you need this = £429 -£53 -£40 = £336
(As well as extending the corrosion cover)

compared to a (new) Smart Car B service of £360 + £55 for brake fluid change, totalling £415 ...expensive for a little car!

My Toyota Avensis main dealer servicing the major service is about £350

My wife has a 2003 Smart ForTwo and it's a cracking little car. So far I've managed to do all the servicing myself. Though at some point I'll need a good independent to adjust or replace the clutch.

Called a local Mitsubishi dealer advertising £99 full services (and that includes a years breakdown cover) for 2yr service on daughter's Colt. £287.

When I queried the £99 service they said they could do that but as our car is under warranty it needs to have the "Mitsubishi scheduled service".

I wonder if there's really any difference?


(Oh, SMART ForFour and Colt are built in the same factory and are the same car under the skin).

Err nope, they share a floor pan & engines, suspension up it's different!

Another small car that's expensive to service is the Fiat 500, again that costs more than my Avensis
