My front brakes (I have been told) have begun to start squeaking when at very low speed when stopping - have been advised to change my discs and pads as the discs have a lip on them.

This is my first Mercedes so am relatively new to the mechanics of this beast, do I need to get main dealer discs and pads only for this or can I make do with aftermarket parts - any advice and opinions on this would be great..!!!

I know Merc main dealers have said around £800 for the frontdiscs and pads and Olly (PCS) has quoted me around £670 for the same original parts which is a good saving, my question is I got a quote from Euro Car Parts and they reckon around £450 supplied - is this even worth looking into..??

Regards,

Harry

Hi,
I bought my C43 discs and pads from Euro's (C43 front discs are the same as a E55 W210). The discs they supplied me were gen MB parts, boxed. Though i did,nt get gen pads they were EBC Red Stuff, IIRC the discs were £149 each (bought about 12-18 months ago).

most euro parts items are the same as main stealer will sell you but just less cost. buy them fit them and spend the saved money on something else!

Go with Olly sounds like a really good offer, my friend has a 2001 E55 AMG and he won't buy anything unless it's a genuine mercedes parts specially brakes becuase it's an AMG.

That's what I was thinking, mainly as this is the kiddie taxi every day..!!!

Would be good to know if anyone has had good or bad experiences with non MB brakes..???

Thanks.

Hi,
The brake Discs Euros supplied me were genuine parts!!! in MB boxes complete HWA Pt. no. (HWA=AMG).

I would always go with MB/AMG parts unless you are going for a higher performance part. Olly is very good!

Worth checking if the price was parts only, or fitted ;)

Also - an obvious point, but some prices will be inclusive of VAT, some + VAT.

I believe the price Olly quoted was parts only delivered.

Thanks for the input so far.

Me!! I had bad experience I use to own his e55 before I sold it to him and used non MB brakes on it, changed them after 2K as they use to stop like crap and that was just pads not disks! :|

Seriously when it comes to brakes then stick with MB that would be my advice!

Get the originals (pads & disks), I just did mine all around and very happy so far with feel, performance no noise whatsoever. Only the damn brake dust. I used Olly for sourcing the original parts with great service.

Rather than start a new thread, I thought I'd revive an old one!

I expect I'll need to replace my front disks and pads on my e55 s210 (1998) in the next month or so. Priced the parts from my local main dealer:

Front Disks: £65.65 each
Pads: £130.80

The disks have obviously been discounted, what are your thoughts on the Pads? Anything better I should go for?

Dealer also quoted me £163.20 for fitting. Don't plan on getting them to fit the disks but didn't think their pricing was too bad.

Cheers,
C

Really?! Thats fecking cheap!! I'd be buying all the stock they can get at that price...

Great price for the discs isn't it, they seem to be heavily discounting them these days! Pity the pads aren't a tad cheaper.

Those and the c43 discs were reduced in price quite some time ago now.

Just a quick update for anyone interested, went ahead and ordered front disks and pads. MB dealer was a pleasure to deal with, even gave me a discount so £236 for the lot!! Quite a difference from the cost when this thread was first started.
