w210 handbrake er footbrake not making clicking sound and pushing down smoothly

Hi, pushed the footbrake lever to find it just depressed smoothly without the usual clicking nothces, what has happened , do I need to get it looked at urgently ?

does the footbrake still hold or does it pop back up again?

i wouldnt say its super urgent - i hardly ever use my footbrake.

no it still seems to work and stay down

There is a silly little piece of plastic in the mechanism. Its only function is to make a noise. Mine broke off about 3 years ago, I have no intention of ever replacing it. I am very happy not to make a rasing noise when I put the parking brake on.

Think of it as an improvement, then forget about it forever. I did!

Mine makes no clicking noise as well so must have broken but works 100% so what duncanh is saying is got to be right.
