Hi all,

I have on my E-Class the comand NTG1 from Europe.
I have upgrade my comand to 15-04 software for the dvd in motion and all is works.

For your information, after this release, it's impossible to going to the engineering menu.

My brother bought a E-class like me (Europe) with the comand but with the last release software for the comand.

He would like the DVD in motion but the special menu doesn't appear because the old code doesn't works on the last release software.

Somebody knows how to DOWNGRADE a comand because i have still the 15-04 software ?

Thx

In UK (and I'm probaly right as saying in EU) you can't have DVD while driving a car.
Apart from this, it is very distracting and DANGEROUS!
I don't want to see people driving their cars while watching DVD...
Safety first.

Cheers
Chris

You didn't understand.

In my E-Class, i have the release software 15/04 (oldest) and it works with the DVD in motion.

The interest is to put a concert of music, like this when the car is in traffic jam you can see the singer and when the car move you listen the music:bannana:

I looking for a method to downgrade the software of Comand when your software is the last one.

Thanks

Still illegal in UK - if you can see moving pictures while driving - you are braking law. Simple.

Cheers
Chris

You can still hear the music when the picture is blocked so it sounds like you dont need it after all:D

Correct, when in TV mode, my COMAND hides the picture while the car is in motion, but the sound works just fine.

I think I understand your question, but the software that was officially installed in your car never allowed for video in motion. Someone has unofficially accessed the COMAND and allowed this function.

I respect the reasons you are giving to want to re-activate Video in Motion but they are wrong and it is irresponsible to activate the option.

I guarantee that when a driver kills an innocent person because they were looking at a video whilst driving; they will not have the courage to be honest enough to admit their error. They will blame anything and everything other than themselves. "It was only for the children"

"I will only watch video when the car is stationary"

"I will only listen to the background noise"

Please consider the consequences of what you intend and apologies for going off at you.

Regards
John

And when your wife wants to see the movie on highway ?

Not a problem I would have. In any event, in most countries having the movie on the COMAND screen where the driver can be distracted is illegal - so it's not an option for the passenger.

For the s-class (and presumably also for other models), you can get additional monitors for the back seat passengers. Either a centrally installed one, or two in the headrests.

When I bought My W211 the salesman asked if I would like to have the DVD in motion activated, he had the codes and would have done it for me. It transpired that wouldn't have worked anyway, but he could have been in a lot of trouble for that.
There are ways of doing it even with the new software, but you wont get an answer on here because of the legality/safety issues. This forum does not condone breaking the law.

I agree with you about the danger with this feature. but i have the dvd in motion actually and i didn't kill the people because i don't see the picture when i drive.

Anyway, for your information the software is an official from Mercedes, and with the 15-04, for the maintenance, Mercedes give access to a secret menu by a combinaison button on panel for many things to repair it. Then in the menu, there is an option to disable the security (certainly for other coutries) and you have DVD in motion.

The problem is when many people and Internet the special code for maintenance are on the forum around the world. After, in the next release of the software, Mercedes must disable the maintenance menu.

@+

We are all aware of the Engineers menu and the fact that it has been disabled, this is to stop the illegal functions being used, although they should really just wipe off that option altogether otherwise there will always be someone who finds the 'crack'

With the greatest of respect I would like to see this 'official' statement.

I can only assume that most European countries will ahve similar laws regarding the watching of video\tv etc whilst driving and I would be grateful if anyone that believes it is legal could post a reference.

A short time ago I posted a service bulletin issued by Mercedes-Benz worldwide.

This bulletin informed all dealerships that owners who complained of having problems with their COMAND and this was caused by accessing various Engineers Menu's or any other misuse of the system would invalidate the warranty and all repairs would only be carried out at the owners expense. They citied Video in motion plus an AMG front screen for non AMG vehicles??

For a main dealer to activate video in motion is plain silly and it would lead them open to major law suits

regards
John

The Salesman wasn't doing it in any official capacity obviously, but still putting himself at risk by offering it.

The fact the hidden sub menu in the Engineering section is described as "Driver Distraction Settings" is very telling ;)

I'd be interested in how one avoids seeing a movie on the head unit screen whilst driving.

To answer the original question, the COMAND doesn't support a roll-back function so to get what you want done will take all of the right kit with all of the right functions and somebody who knows the COMAND much better than a dealer.

For the record i really don't think its a good idea to enable this feature but i also think its your choice so i will say that you can buy modules that sit on the CAN lines to the AGW and remove the speed signal, this will enable TV in motion but will disable navigation dead reckon and speed dependent volume.

He wants to watch video-in-motion and he has found out which was the last version of the head unit software to offer user-selectable menus by engineering mode. It can still be done with later versions if you know someone with the right tools (and there are many).

I don't recall saying the function can't be enabled, it can be done using various modules (some permanent additions and others that plug into the OBD2 port) or you can enable it in software but you can rest assured the dealer won't do it and the Compact3 disables it automatically when it finds it.

What he asked was can you downgrade the software and thats the question i answered.

It is very easy to enable video in motion if you have the correct equipment:) However, we will not enable it for any customer as we believe it is dangerous and it is against the law.
