Update on my intermittent kangarooing/jerking: Well Mercedes said i could not get the actuator on its own so needed to buy a whole turbo for £1500. Went to my indie who said he Kew a place who could recondition it for £350+VAT. I was not convinced coz after some research I found out how to take the actuator off the turbo which I did and found a place in Leicester that recondition these for £79.99...I thought it sounded too good to be true so I took a gamble as their EBay reviews looked very impressive. Very fast turn around got the actuator back within 24hrs and plugged it back onto the car(20mins ish) and wow what a difference. Car pulls with more power now and even managed 45mpg which is never got before. I highly recommend these guys to anyone with such fault..it's not always the turbo as the dealer would suggest and for £79.99 surely it's worth a punt

A fix for £80 means as a fix there is likely to be no replacement parts used and is very much likely to be a 1/2 hour to an hour manual task to rectify. Bearing in mind the postage also. The one question I have is - is the unit you posted exactly the same unit you've had returned? Then the question is for £80 is it worth getting your hands dirty yourself to fix or leave it to those who've seen this issue and rectified it numerous times. So most likely a common manufacturing problem, much like the other problems we see with these cars and others do with other makes. When I get the issue on mine I'll certainly try and investigate if a repair is possible within my capabilities, if not then I know where to go.

Cheers

The top black cover with written Garrett on it was the same but the Silver metal bottom bit was a new part as it was really clean and the number markings that were on my old one where not on the new one coz I took detailed pictures of the Actuator before I posted it as I was a bit sceptical. So far Iv done 1000miles since I got it remanufactured with no issues at all. It also comes with a 2yr warranty so I can complain. You could be right that it's probably just a 30min max repair job

Wheres this rod they wd40? I can only see two sheet metal parts together from pivot point to pivot point?

Picture 3/4

That's what there on about. I've put white grease on mine but it was very free before hand.

Would white grease not attract dirt and dust? Causing it to seize? When u say it was very free before hand how are u gauging that did u remove top pivot and push and pull rod?

It moves freely on the pivot points as you can twist it. I didn't remove the rod. If it's sticking then that would be crud in the vanes at a guess. Wouldn't think you would get dirt etc on the grease as it's under the engine cover.

Yesterday with the car warm, I had to join a carriageway with some power and kangarooing came in at 2500 revs, scanned for codes this morning and I've a pending P0244 code, car went into limp and had to pull over stop and start to get normal drive back. Fine for the next 1:30 of motorway driving and all good this morning. Will search this forum for more detail on this as I'd lubricated the turbo actuator rods following the last occurrence.

Cheers
