Went to my indie who said he Kew a place who could recondition it for £350+VAT. I was not convinced coz after some research I found out how to take the actuator off the turbo which I did and found a place in Leicester that recondition these for £79.99...I thought it sounded too good to be true so I took a gamble as their EBay reviews looked very impressive. Very fast turn around got the actuator back within 24hrs and plugged it back onto the car(20mins ish) and wow what a difference. Car pulls with more power now and even managed 45mpg which is never got before. I highly recommend these guys to anyone with such fault..it's not always the turbo as the dealer would suggest and for £79.99 surely it's worth a punt
A fix for £80 means as a fix there is likely to be no replacement parts used and is very much likely to be a 1/2 hour to an hour manual task to rectify. Bearing in mind the postage also. The one question I have is - is the unit you posted exactly the same unit you've had returned? Then the question is for £80 is it worth getting your hands dirty yourself to fix or leave it to those who've seen this issue and rectified it numerous times. So most likely a common manufacturing problem, much like the other problems we see with these cars and others do with other makes. When I get the issue on mine I'll certainly try and investigate if a repair is possible within my capabilities, if not then I know where to go.
