Dear All

Some help would be appreciated! I have a 53 plate W211 E55 estate with 78k miles. This afternoon the "brake service - visit workshop" message appeared.

I have done a bit of web research and found its likely that he SBC pump needs replacement at some crazy price of around £1,400 (!!!!).

I have also read on here that SBC pumps have a 10 year warranty so should be done by MB FOC. Apparently they stopped doing it free in 2012.......

Obviously contradicting information.

My car is as follows:

3 owners including me (had it about a month)
FMBSH (from supplying dealer)
Due D service in just under 4k miles (so not overdue!)

I know I am well served as regards indies here in Southampton with MBS and the guys in Horndean but obviously if this can be done FOC it would be preferable!

What are my chances of MB doing it FOC, any ideas?

I am also suspicious that it may just be an electrical fault as last week I had another warning saying that the suspension was shot (picture of a car with an arrow inside it) but hat went away and has never returned after turning he ignition off and restarting. This fault on the other hand is logged!

Any help much appreciated!

Thanks

Ben

I think sbs failure/ end of life is a red warning and pads comes up as visit workshop .

Could just be brake pads, the SBC end-of-life is a red warning sign.

That's what I thought but the manual says its a SBC fault, not pads. That's a different message IIRC.

As the SBC pump will go soon most likely what are my chances with MB do you think?

Thanks

I recently enquiried about sbc pump replacement at main dealer. I believe you still have chance if car is under 10 years old. I been told all I have to do is to pay £94 diagnostic charge. Of your car has full history MB will partly or fully (depends if full MB history) cover the cost.
In my case, I had no warning sign or sbc failure just wanted to see if unit will be replaced foc, I got advised if no issues with unit I am just going to loose diagnostic charge. So I left it as it is.

Hi fellas

Very confused now! Just started the car, moved it, braked and he fault has gone!!

Any suggestions, just an electrical glitch? Is this common?

If quite disconcerting, but like crying wolf!

Yeah they can sometimes do that.

But im sure it will come back on again.

I would look at getting the fault codes read.

Looking at the history about the vehicle you put above. It would be worth speaking to your local dealer.

My last two customers with the same problem have both got contributions from marcedes towards the part

What area are you in we might be able to recommend a dealer that are pretty good

Thanks, I am in Southampton. There is a dealer in Southampton and one in Portsmouth. Any views on either?

Cheers

Ben

It's ok thanks, took it to MBS today and it turned out to be a brake light switch that made the system have a fit.

£80 later, full diagnostic check, visual check and clean bill of health, very happy!

MBS are ace!!!!!!

I had this message appear on my 211 on two different occasions,

The first time it stayed on a few days then want away , when I scanned for codes the was none .
The about 9 months later is reappeared for about a week , again no codes where logged .
I sold the car soon after as I reckoned it was gonna come back and cost my a fortune

One last thing. I parked up at about 6:30pm and swear I can hear the pump priming now 11:10pm whilst outside on the drive. I know people say it will continue to run as long as the CAN in active but that's usually only about 20 mins from switching off from what I read

Anyone else had this?

Ta

I've never heard mine beyond the last prime it does (which I wait for it to finish) before I turn it off. I then avoid the loud one next day.

However, before I used to wait and did get the loud one the next day, if it had been priming in between, it wouldn't need to bother doing the loud one the next day I would have thought.

Are you certain it is the SBC pump or could it be you think you can hear it?

I have no idea John, it could very well be pure paranoia!

MBS said it doesn't show any faults on the STAR system, anywhere so I guess it must be ok......!
