W211 E55s for sale

It had the keyless go button and the salesman said that it worked but neither he nor I could make it happen. His response was "It's normally fine. It must be playing up today". LOL.
Need to depress footbrake at the same time as pressing button. Might have been it?

Tried that. :(

It didn't even unlock/lock the car, never mind start the engine, so I think there was something more serious at fault.

The lock/unlock buttons on the fob worked so I think the battery was fine.

As a quick aside John, do you know of a way of finding out the price of precise car when it was initially bought? I can't find the purchase invoice for mine, and am very curious.

I read it on the Parkers website - you might remember I said about the options list you could see which they've since stopped and you have to pay for.

They had a 'list price on the road' without options and it was £74,<something>.

The only time I've ever seen the purchase price for a car I owned was a previous Alpina - which was £74k with the options is had (albeit many options on the equivalent BMW were standard in the Alpina). That was because the dealer gave me a copy of the original invoice.

I imagine dealers have a record of how much was paid for cars - I'd be interested to know the purchase price of mine although mine has hardly any options...

Thanks Drew.

I've now got a shortlist of two.

1. That one above.

Pros:

  • Panoramic roof
  • It's not far from me
  • With a bit of haggling it would fall well within budget
Cons:

  • No keyless go
  • High mileage compared to the other one

2. The other one (no longer listed anywhere but I'm in touch with the seller and it's still available).

Pros:

  • Keyless go
  • Almost half the mileage of the first one
Cons:

  • It's much further away
  • Unless the seller budges (and they've already done a fair bit of budging) it's outside my budget
Decisions, decisions.

Whereabouts is the second car?

If you ask nicely a member on here might live near and go and have a butchers for you?

Birmingham.

Acid from MSL center is in birmingham, you could always see how much he would charge for a full inspection?

I heard he knows a bit about E55s too

Who's Acid? I searched for the username; there are 3 users with acid in their name.

If the second one turns out OK - I would relentlessly hound the seller with your budget constaints until he gives in.

If that fails - extend your budget. At least you will know it is a good one.

Make sure you do an HPI check on it (and follow the hoops you have to have to jump through).

I checked out the service history on mine to ensure it was genuine.

John makes an excellent point there, it's better to stretch the budget a bit and buy a minter than to buy something a bit longer in the tooth with a higher probability of remedial work.

There's a saying on here that 'there's nothing more expensive than a cheap Mercedes'...
