Can anyone help please, have a 2004 W211 and the folding mirrors work fine, fold in & out no problem, however.

The right hand side always returns to the wrong position, you can see the mirror moving but pushes itself into the top left hand position. I can set the memory position ok, if I move the mirrors and then press the stored memory switch both mirrors return to their correct place. It only happens if I fold in the mirrors then back out and only on the right hand side.

Any ideas.......?

just a guess but maybe someone has move the mirror glass manually resulting in the mirror loosing its position on the cogs

Best i can do;)

Are you using the same key everytime?

Are you pressing the memory button with the ignition key inserted?

Each key will retain its own memory settings, so this could be an explanation.

I note your car is a 2004 so the warranty might have expired. Have you got a Service Plus Warranty?

Good luck getting this resolved.

Regards
John

There are a whole lot of wires in the mirror, if they are not in the correct place then the loading can cause the motor to jump a tooth, thus throwing it out. This happens more in the colder weather as the wires get stiff

Yes using the same key each time, in fact I have to press the button in the car to send to mirrors out.

Not sure if anything is getting caught, when the mirror folds open the glass is moving trying to position itself correctly but gives up staying stuck in this top left position. If I press the position 1 button on the mirror/seat memory it tries to move but just keeps nudging into the top left. I then position the mirror using the direction buttons and store the setting again.

As I said the memory seems to work as I can move the mirror and use the memory button to return it to the stored position it just has the problem when the mirror is folded back.

Thinking about it the left had mirror unfolds and the glass has not moved, still in the same position before folding. The right hand one does open with the glass pushed into this top left position. Wonder if its being moved by something behind the glass when it closes????

Maybe I need to get the cover off the back to take a look, anyone got any tips for removing the back of the mirror. I could then look at whats moving as it closes.
