W211 wrong age for Assyst?

Hi,
I've noticed that my servicing interval is not variable, straight line count down from about 9000 odd from my last service tail end of last year.
When I bought my '53 plate E320 CDI (registered about Nov 03) I could have sworn it was variable, the more I drove it on the motorway the more the interval increased.

I've read comments about the Assyst feature being reset by dealers on forums and thought this might have happened to my car so I rang my local Brum dealer.

They advised me that it is not an option on my age of car?!? Can any of you wise ones confirm or deny this?

I've already done over 11,000 miles since last July (including not driving it for a month) and can't really afford several services per year. I was hoping that the variable service interval would help with that, since 80% of my driving is motorway and at least 10% of the rest is fast dual carriageway.

Thanks

I can't answer your specific question, but given the not-excessive miles you are doing I would get a service at annual intervals on the dot. Your motorway miles are very kind to the car, so if you rack up 15-20k per annum then I don't think you have anything to worry about. That said, I'd change the oil at max. 7.5k intervals anyway.

That is a good point about the oil change, it's all the rest I'm not keen on paying for at stealer rates! Plus if I exceed my servicing interval I lose my MobiloLife cover.
Just an Annual service would be fine, but the next service is a "D" and I expect to be expensive.

There is a setting on the assyst system on the car that needs to be changed if you are running Fully synthetic oil.

Can be done by a star machine only.

Thanks for that, so does that mean my car can actually have assyst turned on? I did ask the stealer, they said they used Mobile One which they assure me is fully synthetic.
Any chance of enabling it through an engineering menu?

No, only the star can do it and your dealer can. It was a service measure a while ago. (FOC)

I ran 19 000 miles before the first service on my car. With your driving you should not need service any earlier. If it was serviced last time at an MB shop and proper oil was used (should be obvious), I would say the FSS system is not properly set on your car. Why not ask them to change the setting BlackC55 mentioned, should be free since they've done it wrong. Don't know how it works in-between services though.

Hi,

Mine is the same (05 W211). There has been at least one other member comment about the service interval reducing. It's knocked out my original calculations on anticipated running costs.

I did wonder whether or not the dealer was not resetting the service interval to indicate that fully synthetic oil.

However I think the reality is that MB have quietly 'upgraded' Assyst to do this.

Pity that nobody has come clean on it.

5,000 miles between services?

Can Assyst get it wrong? I've got a 2005 E320CDI, and it had a big service a year ago at 46k miles. It has now done 51k, and Assyst is saying it needs a D service. When thinking about getting Service Plus recently, I asked the dealer who had been servicing it when the next service was likely to be, given current 5 to 6k a year mileage. He said probably Dec 08 to June 09. So I signed up for two years Service Plus in March, however Assyst suggests it needs the D service before the end of the initial three months, which is not quite what I anticipated.

Any bright ideas gratefully received!

Is it a 3 month waiting period on the Serive Plus? Didn't realise, thought it was only a couple of months.
Ouch, not good to fork out for Service Plus and then get stung by a surprise Service!

I think I might pop into my local stealer and see what they can do about it. Thanks for the advise.
