Hi chaps, I'm Ryan - a newly signed up member here and first post.

As my title would suggest I am after any model with the above engine, particularly an E55K. I've hunted high and low and from the research I have done, I feel as though I can get a well looked after example with no more than 70/75K miles on the clock for less than £13000. I'm well aware members forums are about the best place to search for a cherished example, and also for the opinions they offer. For that reason, I have two examples that have caught my eye and wish to ask what you may think.

Used MERCEDES E55 AMG with VERY LOW MILEAGE AND 1 FO... for sale - PistonHeads (Ref 1176307)

Used Mercedes-benz E Class Saloon E55k 4dr Tip Auto in St. Albans, Hertfordshire | Smiths Motor Company

I've already made an enquiry about the latter car. However the mileage does appear to be too good to be true. It has full service history with main/independent garages. The first one again seems extremely cheap for what is on offer.

Your thoughts would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi I can't comment on the second vehicle but your first choice regularly sells E55s. There is a member on here who bought from him and the car was not the spec he sold it as. And I also believe the last car he was selling was advertised as 700bhp. The reputable tuner who did the work informed us otherwise.
If you do a search on here there is lots of advice on buying an E55 and what too look for.
Good luck they are great cars

Well, that will be that forgotten about then!

Yeah I am rummaging through the various threads at the moment, have used the site multiple times before but never actually signed up until now.

Thanks for the info.

Forum member TDE1 keeps flirting with selling his '55 plate E55K, hopefully he will see your thread and be in touch.

Arguably, those two examples are a bit pricey - the second being far more so.

I think with the second one - you are into 55 plate territory with low mileage and good spec - a la TDE1's as SPX mentions...

Yeah a 55 plate would be good. If I'm being brutally honest, I have my heart set on the E55K, but going on what's on Autotrader at the moment, I thought the second car was reasonably priced. For what it's worth, I had a conversation with one of the representatives from that dealer and I'd get it for £11,800 with 15 months warranty. Having said that, I've not yet seen a copy of the warranty to see what it actually covers, which may not be much.

Factor in flights and petrol for over 340 miles, it would still cost me a fair whack :D

I was the same when I was looking. I like other AMG examples but the E55K was the one that really grabbed me by the knackers.

I still think that is too much for that plate personally but value is a subjective thing of course.

Be wary of warranties. The mostly promise the Earth but you may as well line a bird cage with the paperwork usually. Everything you try and claim for is usually 'wear and tear' or just not covered.

That's not to say they are all bad. I believe Warranty Direct are fairly well respective but I don't have personal experience of them.

Are you after a particular colour and spec or not bothered?

I would definitely prefer black but as long as it's a really good example, the colour/spec would be irrelevant. Your point regarding warranties is a valid one too, having had a clutch go on me in a BMW 330i, both that and the dual mass flywheel weren't covered (SHOCK!)

I'm just a sucker for that engine and exhaust note I guess!

the first car was originally on ebay and was in Ireland... this was purchased by guy in Birmingham who was trying to shift it on ebay again... ( I was the guy who bought the supposedly 700 BHP version) anyway getting it all sorted.... the other dealer... I went there over a year ago... didn't like the garage one bit... very cocky and a lot of the cars seemed good value but were slightly rough... small bits and pieces needed doing... went to view a car... kept me waiting for 15 minutes so I just left

Boom... there is a high mileage black E55k asking £5,995 on Autotrader.

I have been watching the market and some sellers are getting desperate now :D

OP Check the classifieds if you are still looking there is a 40k just coming on the market within your budget.

Have you found one yet Ryandz?

I have a E55k at the showroom visit www.msltradecentre.co.uk it's a minter and very good price, have a look if you like it get back to me or call me and il sort you a good deal..

Not found one as of yet, been incredibly busy recently!

Akipid, I may well give you a wee shout sometime soon, looks a lovely example.

Anyone had any experience of SMC Vehicle Sales?

They've got a really nice looking E55K with 75k miles on the clock. 2004 for £9995.

I'm pretty sure my mum bought an MG Metro and / or Rover Metro from SMC in Slough although that was 20 / 25 years ago...

^^^ Not the SMC I don't think on checking.

That one looks OK although the engine bay is grubby but could be sorted with a damp cloth and some time.

Has the pano roof and is a revised 2004/54 with 200mph, hand-installed wiring loom etc.

Looks spot on the money to me if it checks out - and you could still put an offer in on it.
