Wanted - cheap dateless/cherished plate

Those online companies are a joke. They valued one of my plates at over £2,500 where I would say it is worth around £800 to £1,000ish. They valued the other at £1,000 when is it maybe worth £600ish.

Anyone that calls a Mercedes Benz a 'Benz' should have it taken away from them ;)

A 'Mercedes' or a 'Merc' is ok, but a 'Benz' just smacks of a wannabe gangsta rapper ....

(PS: Howard, did you get the PM I sent you yesterday?)

Yes mate , i did .

Still looking for it , house is in a state of turmoil at the moment as i am redecorating , have a feeling it's in a box.

If you are desperate for one , might be an idea to buy one from somewhere else .... if you can wait a couple of weeks when i get all the boxs unpacked , i'll let you know.

Yep, they actually valued it at £650, but I felt this was not realistic so marketed it at £450 or £400 cant remember, its still with them. To be honest I rather have the money to put towards repairs than the number plate, but there you go.

I often refer to my car as "the mighty benz".

but thats just to wind my wife up a bit

SLX 280 on an A Class is 'great', but BNZ 280 on a C280 would be 'naff'

yes BNZ in my book is naff...

Good job we are all different :)

I agree, but why is BNZ on a numberplate so much worse than SLX (assuming neither are your initials!)??

SLX 280 was a cheap cover when I bought it over 10 years ago and put in on a little Polo I had at the time.

It means absolutly nothing to anyone I guess and was bought simply as it was cheap.

I've given this my brother to put on thier car as it hides the age (snoby or whatever..) imho that looks better than say BNZ 170 that we could perhaps buy and put on the car, I just don't like irish plates sorry.

Anyway this isn't helping the op...

Peter how about S55 then your initials or similar as it looks like 555 XXX ?

How about ' A55 CLK '

But it also be read as A BUM G...

Peter , do you have a middle name .... you could go for ' A ** P*G '

Hope your middle name doesn't begin with an 'I' ;)

I think the thing with budget cherished plates is not to look as though you're trying too hard :)

It's all very well wanting to cover the age of a vehicle (a nice additional side effect of owning a dateless cherished plate I guess ;)), but if you're intending to do it with a £60 NI plate then you're really going to look like a cheapskate by doing so - as well as showing that clearly you're paranoid about people knowing how old your car is, etc.

If anything, you'll draw more attention to the fact that your car is old by people noticing the fact that you have a cheap/meaningless plate on it - hence they'll possibly think it's older than it is or judge you on it.

Not that it'd bother me... :D

I'd happily spend good money on a nice plate for the right car - but don't really see the appeal of these OIL/BNZ/XYZ plates that always seem to be on tatty old cars.

No its J , any PJG plates form DVLA start at £390!

S55P*G is not available, anyhow anything with my initials costs £390!

DVLA do not sell A plates with any number over 20!

The reason for A8UMG was ---- A8UMG :D

S55 --- is what i have on retention. I have not got around to putting it on yet.

 aarrgghh sorry,

Dont do it pete...

Looking at your car in the galary by the way looks great, plate has the word SILK in it.. :)

I would be tempted to save a little more and get something you like, either your initials or a dateless XXX XXX (that isn't irish) car looks smart and worth the little extra...
