Wanted - cheap dateless/cherished plate

Each to their own i suppose :p:p

I think 2 digit Northern Ireland plates look good no matter what the letters are.

I personally do not like 3 letter plates that are the owners initials.

It is personal preference. Some people like silver cars, some like dark coloured cars, some people like blondes :D and some like brunettes.......................................... LOL

As you say each to his or her own. That's the way the world goes round, Be sad if we were all the same..

I guess thats a picture from where your from, is yours still a private so to speak? ie do you get a 4 digit plate issued and you pay more for a shorter one?

Yes thats how it goes, DVLNI only issue new 4 digit plates all 1,2 & 3 digit plates they retain and sell at auction.

Anything like OUI , OIL , FIL , BNZ , MBZ etc etc are all cheap Irish plates ... better to leave the original reg on than to put an Irish plate on it ...

.....unless you can find your initials in there.....:D

Still be an Irish plate though ...

I'll tell you what looks really bad .... when you see 'FIL ****' then you find out that the owners name is Phil

Dont worry we dislike the British plates over here as much as you hate our plates. We think that your plates are too fussy, too many letters and numbers. Most of the 2nd hand cars that are imported here change to local plates.:p

Nothing wrong with Irish plates, I have three of them and they look a damn site better than some of the stupid ones you get that are supposed to spell or mean something that has to be explained to you.

Or even the ones where the muppet owner has put extra screw caps to make it look like a different letter!

wait for the next DVLA auction and bid ..

very often the dateless registrations can be had for very little money, especially if you are not that bothered about what it is.

just see if you can pay the reserve .. which is the lowest price.

Your plates are from N Ireland not the Republic of Ireland. You could not register an RoI plate anywhere in the UK, but of course both GB and NI plates can be used in both parts of the UK. All NI plates have either an I or a Z in the letters. New registrations are all prefixs with 3 letters, older plates tend to be suffixs and can be 2 letters as seen in 230Ks photos.

We inherited MIL9888 with Mrs J's old 380SE.
Used to belong to a guy called Michael.
Anyone called Milan, Millicent, Michael out there ?
Aren't 8s supposed to be lucky for Chinese people ?

Yep, 8 is lucky for the Chinese.

For Chinese the number 8 is considered lucky just like the number 7 is considered lucky in the West. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that the Olympic games in China start on August 8, 2008 or 08/08/08. In China you have to pay extra to have the number 8 in your phone number or license plate. In addition, home and business owners like to have the number 8 in their address.

So, why is the number 8 considered lucky in the minds of Chinese people. The main reason has to do with the pronunciation of the word for the number 8 in China. It is pronounced "ba" and sounds like the word for prosperity which is pronounced "fa". Another reason why the number 8 could be considered lucky is because it is a perfect symmetrical shape. You can cut the number 8 in half vertically or horizontally, and both halves mirror themselves perfectly.

But now that GB registrations can include Z you do see MBZ and BNZ etc after the numbers. Do they now look nice, or do you really not like those particular combinations of letters, or is it just where they come from?? Oh and who do you suppose owns
FIJ 1 and where do you think ROI 15 resides ( and it aint cheap ).

I can see where you are leading with this , going to try to make me out to be some sort of xenophobe .... ;)

Irish plates , in the UK , are generally put on cars by people wanting to disguise the fact that they have an old car . This is going to sound snobbish , but it isn't meant that way , they are bought by people who can't really afford a proper personal plate. I accept that there will be exceptions , but by and large it is true. You tend to see them on cheap old cars .

Your example doesn't hold true ...

AB56 BNZ isn't a personal plate , as it can be dated ( last half of 2006 ) just a normal number plate , so no , it doesn't look particularly nice ...

Where as BNZ 1234 cant be dated ( at least over here )

Obviously Fiji own FIJ1 ( i suppose ) and ROI 15 is owned by Rolls Royce ? ( although you'd think they would put it on one of their press cars wouldn't you instead of tucking it away where no one can see it , RR and Bentley used to use 6 digit plates ending in TU for example ' **** TU ' )

I like Belfast , i have some great friends that live in Dungannon :)

Have you ever been pulled for having an illegal font on your motorhome numberplate ?

Probably a good move , holding up all us English with your caravan ;)

Very strange that after 3 years. (i had forgotten to take it off.) i had a call this morning from Car Registration Transfers offering me £1,950 for my Number Plate S55 PUR which is not on my SL yet, (yes, i am a Spurs fan but not a 55 owner :-(.)
Not tempted by the offer yet but could be if they go higher?
