I possibly might be interested in a Merc 190 Cosworth or 500SL in 4 weeks or so. (manual if its a 190)

4 weeks because I need to move a car before taking another (no space currently) so cannot buy before but putting feelers out now.

Possibly because I am not convinced I should be buying an older car to replace my daily driver.

So let me know what you have but please only if it is sensibly priced.

Budget not fixed but not interested in garage queens at stupid money or over paying because its had lots spent on it.

A nice service history is vital. Cars requiring a bit of tidying prefered. Rare colours, specs etc of particular interest.

Not for sale anymore Mr Giantvanman, but thanks for linking!

It does seem to be suitable and had been keeping an eye on that one. I may investigate if its still about in a couple of weeks.

A member dropped me a helpful pm about the challenges of using one for a daily driver which has sort of put me off which makes me think more.

The issue is not financial but logistic and practacle .... I can't have three cars at the moment or in the future. My nosey neighbours moan it makes the road look untidy if a car hangs off my drive which pees my wife off! (Which is not worth the grief)

I also have no idea how many miles I will be doing after June when i become redundant. Could be 5k or 50k per year.

All I do know at the moment is I want to work for myself so will need a car to get about. It may as well be something fun.

I am therefore leaning towards an SL at the moment but still open to a 190 if the right car comes along.

Interesting, can't add to what I've already said in my previous posts other than it would be sad to dismiss a 16V because of some so called challenges, as they are no more challenging than any 25 year old Merc and this is coming from a guy that has ran a W124 300E and W201 2.6 as a daily. In actual fact the worst thing you could do, particularly to a 16V is not drive it on a regular basis and that's where a lot of owners come unstuck, worth bearing that in mind.
Just to add a bit of prospective, I bought a W202 C230K last year as a fun project simply because I wanted to muck about with a forced induction car and that would if I allowed it, I think could possibly cost as much to run, maintain and keep in a comparable condition as my 16V. So, food for though if nothing else.

Regardless, if you feel you'd be happier running a nice R129 that's the one to go for, I think the earlier cars a classic in the making too.

Good luck with your search.

Thanks! Definately keeping my options open ... I suspect both cars will not be far off ultimately.
Will use this thread plus a good hunt to gather leads and make up my mind when I have a bit more clarity on my employment situation. I may end up having to do big miles so a diesel might have to the case.
If I had the space I would get a classic and a sensible car.

My SL320 will become my daily driver when I finally offload the company hack at the end of April, I can't wait.

What age of R129 500SL are you looking for?

I am open to any year really. Something with lots of history would really appeal even if it needed some tidying.
Also a big fan of rare options/colours.
Anything sensibly priced is worth highlighting though.

Pm replied bud yeah the loser that won it never showed surprise surprise bloody eBay w4nkers haha

I think its getting worse on there to be honest and I have always been a big fan.
Getting shot of my E430 at Xmas bought out every plank on there I think.
In the future I am going to use the classified listings only to stop people buying and then dicking about.
Had been keeping an eye on yours for a while .. Pm sent

My R129 500SL is for sale here. I'll give it a bump in a moment, as the sun has been shining today. Whether you think that it's sensibly priced or not is another matter. :-)

It is low mileage and in excellent original condition.

Please PM me if I can help with further information.

I know little about R129's but that one I'd avoid.

What puts you off? I thought for the money it could be a reasonable buy.
Would need checking out obviously but good body, £10k of receipts and full service history are a good start?
Not an expert on those wheels though .. Are they brabus?

The wheels were replicas.

That car didnt attract me either. In fact none of the ones you linked looked positive.

The green one looked the best but... it was green.

The silver one might have had promise but it looked like the photos were taken using a 1 megapixel phone camera, perhaps in a bid to disguise the surrounding gypsy camp.

The phrase "there is nothing more expensive than a cheap mercedes" is particularly apt here.

Choose very carefully.
