What do you want to know?

JDB,
I'm in the market for a new amg c43 estate, when I went to order my new car the dealer told me that the black ash trim is out of stock at the factory and so they can't order my new car until mid December for march delivery.
Having spoken to another dealer the following day they info me that the trim is available to order
Any idea why this might be?

Thanks in advance

Black ash wood is a restricted option, so the dealer would have to find a build slot with that option already specified. Clearly the first dealers build slot has the gloss black. Be careful though, the second dealer may just not be aware that it's restricted and may end up calling you to say that the order has failed

JBD,
Done 300 miles running in my C43 and sticking strictly to the correct procedure but I was wondering if I am OK to drive it in manual mode and comfort? I've only been driving in comfort and haven't touched the paddles yet.

Cheers

You should be fine to use those, don't worry

Thanks for the reply

I don't understand how this works, I have decided to stay with my local dealer but he has informed me that there is a possibility that he will not be able to order the black ash in December and looking on another site some people in America are saying that its possible the ash wont be available to order until February.
Please can you advise me how the ordering system works and what is a restricted option?
Would I be able to order the car at another dealer and be guaranteed a delivery date for the options I want?

thanks
Nigel

The factory have a limited number of build slots with black ash wood because it's a very popular option and they're struggling to get enough. When dealers are allocated build slots, they already have an assigned spec. That spec can be changed, as long as the changed options haven't run out. Your dealer needs to find a build slot that already has black ash wood assigned.

Your local dealer will just have to wait until the next build month, or find a build slot from another dealership.

Please ignore America, they're build times and specs are completely different.

Hi JBD,

I thought I heard somewhere that the C Class for MY 17 are to have the new E Class diesel engine in them? is there any truth in this? are there any other changes that are coming for MY 17 and when do build slots become MY 17's spec?
I am due to replace my A220D which i think has the same engine ass the C220D at the moment, but the new E engine is far better when i compare to the old mans E. any info you have would be great :)

No, there's no truth in that. The change for MY17.5 is the 9G-tronic gearbox. The engine won't change until facelift

wonder why MB is continuing to fit the old 2 liter diesel engine .. to use up stock?

Exactly. They'll have a planned date to change it for each model. I believe it's not changing in GLC until 2019

Hi JBD,
Memory jogger for you. September 2013 brand new courtesy car.
4 door C class, AMG, paddles, standard wheels & sunshine roof.
Very quick, diesel but not 320 engine.
Have you any idea what it could have been, I can`t source it.

Have posted this separately but a member suggested I ask you directly so here goes.

''Not wishing to upset the applecart but clearly there are a number of MB dealers who use this forum. Therefore would appreciate if they would comment on the increasing volume of posts relating to the juddering/clonking issue that appears to be affecting the GLC/C on slow speed+ full lock. EG is your dealership aware of the 'problem', have many of your customers contacted you and what have MB Head Office told you to say to these customers. And perhaps more importantly what is your particular dealership doing to address this issue.''

It's something we're completely aware of. MB's response it's that it's a characteristic of the car and that there isn't going to be a fix for it. It's clearly not something that can be fixed with a software update. The 4Matic cars on the MRA platform are full time four wheel drive, so it's not like a software update can change that. It's just something we're having to make customers aware of before they buy

Can I ask, have you been made aware of any 2wd cars having this issue, as my A250 does this and it's very disconcerting, so much so that my wife refused to drive it on the motorway as she believed that there was something wrong with the wheel/steering/suspension.

Wouldn't expect a fwd car to do this by reading the other threads.

This is a characteristic of a lot of 4wd cars Audi included.

Remember you have mechanical moving bits and bobs in the front axels which may not have been on your previous cars. The sounds are new to you and scrubbing (which all mercs do) is a trait of the way suspension lifts the outer wheel.

Does this account for it happening to a fwd car?

Hi Dave.

I'm no mechanic but having plenty of Mercs in the family, it's something experienced in virtually all of them. My sister in law actually just got an A class 220 Amg line. I will have a go in it and let you know. I'm pretty sure it will do the scrubbing thing too.

It's our third Mercedes and the only one to do it. My C250 was bought at the same time and has no issues at all, and had a 2014 C180 prior to that too, no issues there either.

This isn't just a light scrubbing though. The car slides and clonks like nothing I've felt before. It actually feels like your not in control while it happens and the car does its own thing. Not nice at all. It sounds and feels like it's doing damage somewhere.
