What do you want to know?

Hi JBD,

I've been advised to ask you to help with a query of mine so I hope you don't mind if I ask.
Back on the 18th Feb, I ordered an E220D AMG Line 4Matic estate/ Selenite Grey/Premium Plus/Driving Assistance Plus/Electric Tow Bar. I've been given an estimated delivery date of 20th May but so far haven't been given anything at all with regards to an expected build date.
Am I a bit too keen to hope that we would know roughly when the build begins?
Are you aware of any big delays for a car of this spec? I am aware that tow bars have been an issue in the past.

Many thanks in advance and appreciate any answers.

Paul B

There’s definitely a short supply of the 4matics, but if you have an estimated date, you must have a build slot. The dates are only estimated, so I’d hang on until late April/ early May when it’s close to build and the dates will be more firm

Thanks for that, JBD. When we ordered they were all jolly talking about the planned build date and then nothing. I did wonder whether the factory was holding back UK builds until the end of the month and therefore causing an ongoing delay. The estimated May delivery date was on the order form so I guess they have an inkling as to when it will all happen.
I, or rather my wife, will be patient and twiddle our thumbs until well into April.

There’s no holding back of build slots, so you should be ok

Thanks, JBD.
My wife is really looking forward to this car in a way that she has never been before. She didn't want another SUV and after very nearly buying a V90 Cross Country Pro we ended up back at MBs door. I will still have to spend hours sitting in the car reading the manual, pressing buttons and discovering how it works so that I can pass on the info to her.

Q. Do proper paper copies of the brochures exist? I was hugely put off by both MB and Audi only having digital brochures. I think that the vast majority of car buyers love to sit down and devour a brochure to make sure that they get exactly the car that they want.

We haven’t done paper brochures in about 3 years. Specifications, emissions, taxes, engine variants change so often that it makes zero sense and is hugely wasteful

That's a pity. I have the sales brochure and price lists for my car from 2005.

Lovely things...and the only reason I know MB did a roof rack for the W215 (though no one seems to have bought one).

Hi JBD,

Mine is a simple question (I hope) - are you able to advise what battery will be fitted in my E400d 4MATIC please?

Regards

G

Hi,

I found the electronic Guide extremely useful before I collected my vehicle - had it on both iPad and iPhone and the search and bookmarking options made it easy to re-find specific items.

Thanks, Gavin. I’ll have a look but as a total Luddite I really prefer paper.

And for good measure you can access it in the car via COMAND

Hi,

Unfortunately I’m not. If it’s built, you should be able to request that info from your dealerships service department

I can’t help but agree with the green sentiment of having all the publications in an electronic format.

JBD, is there an announced date for the new GLCs to be available, and are you aware if there has been any redesign for the UK market to get rid of the wheel skipping on slow speed corners ?

There’s already a recall implemented to change part of the steering, so I’m sure the new models will have that too. Production starts in June and pricing should hopefully be out next week

Thanks for that, so I should expect a recall on my Oct '15 GLC ?

I’m not 100% sure. I’ll see if I can find out today

Hi guys,

So this is interesting
500 000th Mercedes-Benz C-Class rolls off the line at the East London Plant - The Village News

By 16th of March 2019, C class number 500.000 was built.

I have a C class on the way from RSA and the vin number’s last 6 digits states 499543.

Now, my seller said it would be produced end of March. But if number 500.000 was built on 16th of march, isn’t my seller giving me the wrong information? Or is Mercedes using a weird numbering system?

Any idea when information on the facelift V class - including Marco Polo - with the new diesel (V300d) engine will be available?

Hi, I posted a question here regarding an embargo on the latest GLE 450 - any advice or comments appreciated.
