What Have You Done To Your Merc Today?

I’m on ma way with @ringway. He’s awesome at detailing and cleaning engine bays. I’ll consume the reward. Please prepare the East wing and arrange the swans. Lurpak slightly salted on the sandwiches. NO margarine.
Good point on bringing @ringway for the engine bays. He’ll insist on being paid in Wimpy Benders in a Bun with Cheese and Bang Bang Chicken. He’s an expensive date.

Good call, Lurpak.

Lets go with that... :D

Ant is supposed to be having a ruby when he visits.

Rob, I'll make you a bacon sandwich with the rashers cooked for just 30 seconds each side. ;) :)

Sounds perfect Paul, just long enough for the raw “sheen” to disappear and for it to be warm to the touch ...then it’s ready to eat 👍🏻

I took it out for a quick squirt yesterday to see if the balljoint & arm had made much difference to the way it drove and, bingo, much taughter.

One or both had evidently been shot for a long time. Last summer I drove round with roof bars & bike racks all summer and thought that the mystery clonking was coming from there. It was only when I took all that clobber off that I realised it was from somewhere else. Strangely, unlike in my 211, I couldn't pinpoint the noise as coming from the front of the car.

Happy now, as that will no doubt sort the very slight but irritating wandering on the motorway and the tramlining on bad B roads.

Drained this out and filled up with fresh 5.1.

Changed rear pads on my E55, bit of a nightmare getting the retaining pins out, roped father into helping me, he did one side whilst I worked on the other, I'd already soaked them with penetrating oil a few weeks back, but fought all the way, gave pins a good clean and Cooper greased them.

Replaced tailgate struts. Much safer now, doesn't try to decapitate me randomly. When I first got this car a few weeks back, I was blethering about tyre sizes being weird. Well today, after yet another visit to finally get the wheelnuts off, I decided to have a proper look.
Front: 225/40r18
Rear: 255/35r18
So they match in diameter, but are fitted to different rims, the part numbers of which are different (...13... vs ...14...) and I should have taken photos of the numbers, drat.
Someone did comment that they would maybe be different rim sizes, but to be honest, I just didn't think why this would be so. And still have no idea why one would do this on so 'normal' a car.
Now, this pains me somewhat. I'd much prefer to have the standard 225/40s all round, quite apart from the extra cost of the 255/35s.
Swap, anyone?
Still can't get to the damned foglight either, the washer resevoir is in the way. looks like bumper off...Warmer weather job.

You could get another two front wheels and fit them on the rear to get the 225/40s all round. Not sure how they'd fit or what it would do to handling characteristics though.

Yep, staggered fitment is standard on some W/S204's. My 2013 C180 Sport has 8j x18 ET50 wheels on the front and 8.5j x 18 ET45's on the back. Front tyres are 225/40/18's and rears 255/35/18. I guess you could argue it's overtyred for a 1.6 ;)

New rubber mats fitted. Tailor made for the car (SL350 R231), weight and quality is top class. Can swap them over for my AMG mats anytime.

According to the handbooks, it should be same all round, so can't say it'slikely to make that much difference...however, for the moment it is what it is, so I'll live with it.

Yup, overtyred would be the word!

Early start this morning, popped over to my mates body shop and got him to fit a couple of carbon parts that came through the post yesterday !!
For parts from China I was actually really impressed with the fitment.

And the front bumper parts make it look a bit more aggressive !!

Cleaned mine, and then fitted two pieces of genuine Mercedes bling, one to each door

I saw the chrome door lock buttons on eBay for £20+ each but got them from my local MB Dealer for £17 for both. Two of each of these and 5 minutes, job done.
