Just done mine Ant'

Beat you to it Rich..

Rather than start a new thread ( I'm sure a certain killer-Mod will step in, if this is deemed inappropriate😉 ) I have elected to simply post in here...

Well, it's done..
I certainly don't think I'm going to win any prizes, or have this as a money spinning sideline.!
Hopefully good enough to fool the MOT inspector though.?

Was that the Quixx kit? Used mine today and I'm very impressed. Had to use some 1500 before the supplied 2000 grit because my lights were terrible but the results are great.

Got a bit of a dab on now.

Picked up my 2022 ebay "impulse buy" 🤦🏼‍♀️ 230ce from the Indie. Ball joints, steering damper, fan switch, new windscreen, accelerator cable and a few other bits. Hopefully it won't live up to my username.

I used the same Holts kit that @HappytalkAgain had used Rich1068.
I don't mind admitting, when I washed down after I had used the most coarse grade I did think I had made a big mistake trying this.
However I stuck with it, and today it passed the MOT scrutineer's inspection.

A couple of observations with the Holts kit.:
They suggested a drill on low speed. I chose my mains drill with a 2 speed gearbox & variable trigger. -It was "doo-able", but not easy. Also all the water splashing around made working with a mains supply concerning.
I changed over to my faithful Makita cordless drill, set the gearbox to screwdriver speed & it was far more controllable as well as not presenting any electrical hazard from all the water.
The final clear sealant spray, I presumed was a lacquer that would dry hard.
It isn't.!
It does not go hard, it is more like a wet spray polish that you buff up.

Great info. Thanks for the heads up. I’ll be using my Makita too. Planning to do to deed on Sunday as working tomorrow. Daughter not happy cause it’s Father’s Day Sunday. I reminded her that it’s my day and I’ll spend it how I please. 😁

Looking forward to time on the car with her. ☺️

Top man, enjoy.! 😊
Remember, bucket of water to dip the sanding disc in periodically (to remove ground plastic from the abrasive surface) and your "glamorous assistant" had one of those hand sprayers to keep the lense constantly wet ahead of you, the work environment will be less like the paddling pool effect that I ended up in.

I've had this problem with the Autoglym and Meguiars kits. I don't have a cordless, only mains. And not just the water but the final stage polish goes everywhere if you're a little too heavy with the trigger. The Quixx kit is strictly by hand.

If headlights are just yellow and not heavily marred I can also recommend the Amorall wipe kit from Halfords.

Anyhoo, my right arm aches from all the sanding and my left arm aches from yesterday's COVID booster. I'm a shell of a man.

For my E63 it was £880 ish Inc the £23. £60 had to be credited to your bank account not a card.

Cursed the car today as brake wear warning is on and checking discs they are all reasonably lipped so new disc and pads all round are needed. Went on line and there are so many options these days on makers, plain, drilled, drilled and grooved?
Just want a standard (not at Mercedes prices) plain disc and pads as I drive like the old man I'm am these days!

Any suggestions on make or those to avoid?

For aftermarket standard brakes and pads I've always used EBC EBC Brakes | EBC Brake Pads | EBC Brake Discs | EBC Brake Shop

  • Drove my C350 to my local stealership for an A service, MoT and airbag recall.
  • Drove home in new CLA 200 loan car - quite impressed for a small 4-pot that even had a nice light beige interior. Not so impressed when I looked online and saw that the lovely interior is only available on the base model when you chose a black exterior!
  • Received video of underneath of car check - all good.
  • Drove back to local dealer to collect my car.
  • All done. No advisories on MoT - which was free!
  • Signed up for the Service Plan for three more years (B A B - with the first of those B services being everything including 6 plugs)
  • Drove home in beautifully clean car that's old but still does everything well.

Added 500 MLS of anti crystal to my ad blue tank and topped up the ad blue to the hilt. Dash now saying Full instead of not full. Which is good news for the in tank sensors. I also sprayed the rubbers ' Underneath ' the panoramic roof with a gummi pfledge type product ,the door and window rubbers also got a lash with it . Put £50 of diesel in , added , redex ,2-EHN 99 , dipetane.

Went to collect my daughter from work, a 130 mile round trip. Mrs D insisted taking the cleanest (black) car, instead of my suggestion of a clean-ish (silver) car which has already driven in rain this week. It blooming rained 10 miles from home ☹️
