What Have You Done To Your Merc Today?

Up and out early to drive an hour to my MoT test station for a 0700 slot. The big old family fun bus passed with flying colours. I really enjoy driving this bad girl. Autumn mode engaged.

It’s astonishing that it’s still not sold Rob. 🤷‍♂️

There was an eBay listing for a vehicle that looked almost identical to that a while back.
I tried to buy it on several occasions, but every time I just got a message saying "sorry, there is a problem with this listing. Your transaction cannot be completed"... 🤔

‘Error 63’

👏👍👌😂😂😂

Painted a spare wheel to replace my bent one. Both tail lights blew at the same time and also found the common ground wire slightly burning up on the light cluster

Washed and waxed, Also adjusted front bearings and sorted out front brakes as they were binding slightly due to the sliders being dry as a bone!

Gave mine a thorough hand wash; it was the filthiest it has ever been having covered about 1,000 miles in month in a variety of trips to and from London, Leeds, Warminster and Salisbury. Extremely satisfying.

I now kind of wished I'd used it for yesterday's trip to Sheffield but I decided to "let the train take the strain". Yeah right. What should have been a relatively simple 2-and-a-bit-hours-each-way trip turned into a 8 hour marathon which went London => Tamworth => Nottingham => Sheffield => Tamworth => Peterborough => London. Lost of delays, two critical cancellations, two massive diversions and a ton of additional cost. Still, at least we made it. Two weeks ago I had abandon all plans to get to Edinburgh by train and buy last-minute flights at exorbitant cost instead.

Still, the car's clean :)

Unfortunately weekends can be awful for long train journeys as they often do maintenance on the network then.

Tamworth to Lo don via Peterborough? Was the West Coast Mainline closed?

Wasn't he going to Sheffield via Tamworth? But diversion there and different diversion back?

God knows what was going on. For some reason instead of sending us direct London to Sheffield and back, all the trains were going via Tamworth. They were doing the same for people trying to get to Edinburgh etc.

The train out of Euston was delayed, some fire had buggered up some signals and there was some dodgy track on one of the tunnels. We were getting later and later and missed our connection. Which, as it turned out, wouldn't have mattered as they cancelled it anyway.

We crammed on the next available train which took us to Nottingham. Changed there onto a Leeds train from there which stopped at Sheffield.

On the way back to sunny Tamworth the news came through that the London train had been cancelled. Spend a frantic 10 mins trying to get a signal to see If I could get to Luton and from there onto the Thameslink when my daughter found a connection from Tamworth to Peterborough. Then another train into Kings X.

They whole process was utterly chaotic. I ended shelling out the same again for the tickets from Peterborough as for the whole of the rest of the trip. But not as bad as the extra £400 I had to spend on Easyjet tickets when I was trying to get to Edinburgh a couple of weeks ago and the East Coast mainline was basically closed.

I'll get maybe £150-£200 back if I can be ****d with the horrific claims process but will still be seriously out of pocket not to mention all the stress and wasted hours.

Still we made it to both Edinburgh and Sheffield (and I also did Cardiff and Bath) with my daughter. Sheffield is now top of the list for her uni years so worth all the trauma.

Big improvement :thumb:
