What Have You Done To Your Merc Today?

MOT time for my little old Vito ( not today actually, Thursday).

Washed her, in preparation, and went over all the usual's as you do (in expectation of the usual PASS with begrudging advisorys that express the tester's frustration at having to give a pass to a ratty old 270k miles van).

 FAIL. !!!

A broken rear spring (these dam things seem to be a "consumable" on Vitos, and it's not like it gets laden. Mostly almost empty & occasionally with a motorbike or two & trackday kit).
Oh, and a corroded brake pipe. To be fair, that was a good spot on the part of the tester. I'd missed it (and I had/do check). In mitigation, it was located where it would be much easier to see on a ramp than when I'm laying on my crawler)

So yesterday I was sorting the brake pipe, and ordering 2x more springs.!
Email this morning from the courier to say the springs will be delivered today, should be a swift return for my re-test.!

I haven't done anything since getting the seats refinished except driving it around in the sun.

I keep making excuses to use it as (a) the air con + seat cooler make it a much better option than my wife's Fiat 500 and (b) the driver's seat looks and feels a billion times better - it had gone really shiny and therefore a bit slippery; now it's nicely grippy again. As the fitters told me, it's quality leather. The refinish has been worth every penny.

I’m feeling quite accomplished. The GLE had an annoying squeak from the rear centre armrest whenever it was down, which, with the kids in the car is all the time. It was getting on my nerves! So, I removed it, thinking the hinges needed greasing or something, but once removed, neither it or the seat squeaked. So, I just put some foam tape over the mounting bracket where it attaches to the seat, and it’s fixed it! So maybe the screws were a tiny bit loose and the two metal parts were rubbing together.

Nowt worse than an annoying squeak or rattle.

I agree. It was really doing my head in.

Also, as a plus. I found some McDonalds Pokemon cards from 2023 that had fallen down the back 🤣 Previous owners kids must have lost them. My son was happy.
