What Have You Done To Your Merc Today?

Picked my sister up from Rugby Services - a good day for driving. 296 miles round trip, 5 actual hours total in motion and 51.4mpg. Car may be 14 years old but still keeps up with the best and is a nice place to be
An average speed of 60 mph is not to be sniffed at and much easier said than done in the Midlands and South, unless travelling the middle of the night.

PS I reckon being 14 years old puts your car in the right bracket of being “peak car”.

I love all cars of all ages, but there’s definitely a concentration of my favourite cars during the period between 2006 to 2018. I personally believe that during that period ICE cars reached their zenith, with peak balance of performance, efficiency, sustainability, reliability, repairability, corrosion resistance, technology and simplicity.

Peak technology and peak simplicity may at first appear to be an oxymoron, but in practice it was perhaps a sweetspot in the balance of having enough technology without too much complication to be unrepairable should the worst happen.

We’re very lucky to be driving as cars manufactured and sold during that period right now as they are probably at or close to the optimum mix of low value on the used market and being new enough to have been looked after (or not abused).

Stash ‘em whilst we can, and if we can’t stash them, then let’s enjoy them!

Very true. And I didn't even use the Toll road southbound - £10.30 now!!! #tightarse! Bottled it on the way back up though and paid up as I know the long northbound uphill stretch around Stafford can be a pain and then approaching J21

Drove it to SADCASE...a bit of intermittent light drizzle did not seem to affect the turnout. A good few Mercs there too. Pics later when I get home and have good WiFi.... unlike this pub!

Washed it, with my new stubbby gun and snow foam canon from ADCR detailing.
It all connected to my Nilfisk C130 pressure washer and this stubby gun proved a lot nicer to use than than the lance I had before, easier to control the distance from the nozzle to the car and makes getting in the wheel arches a breeze.
It comes with 5 nozzles for widening spray patterns, I only used two nozzles ( green and white) but they were perfect enough.

The foam canon along with their own snow foam worked brilliantly, just like the demo videos you see with an awesome thick foam, I highly recommend this product.

Their drying towel is also very good, took all the water off immediately after finding, puddles on the roof etc, and had room to spare once done.

This was an hour and a half job but she’s all clean again and windows done with Fastglass, got to love these summer evenings creeping closer.

Took Mrs D to have her do done in one. Cross country blast with the roof down. I do love driving 🛞

Had one cleaned to. All traces of the North Devon coat have been removed, inside and out. For now.

Had ours waxed and polished today along with an engine bay clean. It looks brand new. 👌
Ant, I am disappointed. It’s not like you’re new to the village. You know the rules. You helped to write the rules. Now sort it out.

How have you got on with the side steps?
They are becoming a pest. Because the side steps were spec’ed on ordering (factory order) every time I request a price for the standard skirt trim the supplier asks for my VIN or Reg No. to check out the parts required. Obviously upon entering the code the system wants to replicate the steps. So going round in circles. 😤

I think I’ve identified the part numbers I need based on a standard GLC of same age and actually bought passenger side from a breakers on flea-bay for £32 delivered. It’s a scratched and scuffed one but will be a good way of seeing if I’ve got the correct part numbers before I order brand new ones from MB Newcastle (£150+vat per side) as once ordered and paid for they can’t be returned if they don’t fit.

Basically it’s a £32 experiment.

Just waiting to collect a pair of ramps from a pal so I can do a trial fit. 🤞

At least in theory (by MB /AMG standards anyway), you're doing it the "cheap" way round, rather than adding the steps. I fell over when I saw the price of those
And with a bit of luck you should be able to offload them for a decent price once removed.
