Hi

Can someone tell me where the oil, fuel and air filteras are on my w230 180k, along with the spark plugs. I have had a look around, and they seem to be well hidden!

I am being cynical, but my car needs a service soon, and I want to be able to check that these items are changed.

Grateful for any advise.

I'm not being funny, but whats the point of joining a forum such as this for advise or opinions, if I have to go and buy and manual ! Surely the benefit of the forum is the expertise, convienience and ease.

Grober was offering you good advice, for the small outlay, the Haynes manual has good pictorial accompaniments to concise written instructions. Also you will benefit from the detailed information about capacities and fluid types etc.

I suggest you use a reputable specialist who you can trust!

Sounds to me that if you have to ask these questions before starting, you will truly benefit from such a book as there are other important issues such as jacking the car up, placing axle stands and other safety points. You should make yourself fully aware of these before commencing any work on your car otherwise you are compromising your own safety and could end up damaging your car!!

The Haynes manual or similar will guide you on these critical issues.

My strong advice would be to avoid the Stealerships and go to one of the "high quality" Independents often quoted on this and the other Forum and you can forget about the need to be cynical.
You will receive a first class service and at a considerably less than "rip off price"
And you will probably be allowed to watch them work on your car and receive a running commentary!

Thanks for your replies, and points taken. I am not saying the manual is not good advise, merely, for ease and conveinince the forum should be a good point of reference. I wouldn't do anything that would compromise safety, but was seeking guidance on where these parts could be so that I could see what to do - if anything.

For the first time I am thinking of using a local specialist, rather than the stealer, but despite my seraches, I have not been able to find a recomendation for one in Oxfordshire.

Thanks again.

Phone Olly (02392 570123) or email him (black c55 on this Forum) and ask him to name someone. The best Indies are getting to know each other quite well and are happy to give advice.

For the price of a service at MB you could buy all the parts and fluids you need plus a good hydraulic jack, a pair of axle stands, overalls, Haynes book, and all the tools you need!!

An investment certainly, after that you only need buy the parts you need.

OR find a decent indie, there are plenty around, I understand BlackC55 is a good start and apparently well worth the drive and wait.
Not a million miles from Oxfordshire.

Here's one, Chris Grey, top MB mechanic, Steve with the bodyshop a few doors along is worthy of mention too.

Independent Mercedes - Mercedes specialists Aylesbury

It may have come across that I was dismissing your request but because I don't know if you know your way around cars its difficult to know how much detail to go into. :dk: I could say the dip stick tube is beside the alternator but if you don't know what an alternator looks like that's not much use to you? Working on the principle that a picture is worth a thousand words I reckoned that the manual was the best bet to answer all your questions.

The search function is also very useful. You can usually find most of what you want in there.

ok air filter is in the intake tube box leading to the inlet manifold/ throtlle body and just in front of your MAF.

oil filter would be down by he dipsick below/beside the lower part of the engine, might have a blue or black colour.
spark plugs, you may need to take the black cover off the engine if you have one and an allen key may be necessary. should be on the top right side of the engine.

Could slightly differ on your car
