Whooshing noise coming from turbo area.

I wouldn't trust even the Main MB stealers.

Read here about my pre wire phone reception problem.

They suggested 3 hrs labour as a minimum, in order to fault find. They said that if they dont find it in that time then they would call me and give me the choice to continue paying for more diagnosis at £105 +VAT an hour.

Without diagnosis they were convinced the rear screen would need replacing.......... the head of the service dept said he'd never heard of there being any other fault which would cause my symptoms - in all his years of experience.

This alone would convince a person to take this advice and spend the extortionate amount of money.

Guess what.....with help from this forum - i fixed it myself in minutes for free!!! :D

Sorry - but i dont trust main agents - its trusted indies every time for me.

hello, everybody ,Thanks for all the replies, i really appreciate it.I took the car to ITS turbos in driglington, the guy told me it soulnd like a gush of air rather than ia turbo, he told me to go to mechanic down the road he can help.
So i took it to him he said it doesnt sound like the turbo,he pointed out that the valve that goes onto inlet is at fault but he said i should get it on dignostic machine before i do anything else.

I took the car to a Indy in Leeds he said the turbo was ok nothing wrong with it.He advised me could look at it properly but he would charge me and he might not find any fault because all the pipes look ok.He also drove the car and said the power was ok.
i also took the car back to my mechanic ,he said the noise was coming from the air filter the air filter we changed was vey dirty ,so he said that copuld have blocked the noise.
The only thing i am worried about is the Indy said there was a small puff of black smoke coming when revved a little bit.

It's sad that these days nobody seems to want to help, even for a small amount of time, without there having to be a charge for it!.........when i was running a small repair business i would, at times, spend some time looking at a customers car to find the problem without charging anything and that often would result in gaining loyalty and trust from that customer and regular servicing/repair work on his/her vehicle.

A small puff of black smoke when revved is normal for a diesel.

This guy as been around to so many garages for a free check at the end of the day nobody is gonna work for nowt!

5 mins yes.

Dirty air filter just points to very poor servicing, in my opinion..

Dirty air filter was from previous owner, thats why i had the car serviced.
i dont want to get ripped off by somebody, you would do the same.

Ive had this problem too or at least what sounds like this problem.

I only had a whoosing noise when the turbo span into action and i thought the worst.

In the end after taking the car to murry motors in belfast (independant merc specialist) i had two blocked cats and a split in the intercooler, which was worsened by the cats being blocked.

Once this was sorted the car is smooth as silk and is really fast now compared to the non boost beforehand.

I didnt realise how much that intercooler does to the air, fantastic.

Get the car checked for both these faults i have mentioned, or if you can get a friend to rev the engine when your looking underneath it you will notice this...

Blocked CAT: Smoke being expelled from a leak somewhere in the exhaust near the engine not the exit at the rear of the exhaust. Mine was at the joint clamp from manifold to first cat as far as i can remember.

Leaking intercooler: Mine was leaking at the exit end of the intercooler which is to the left if your facing the car, it was noticable under boost when the turbo spins up there was a quite loud whooooooosh coming form the bumper area. Also there was an oily residue where originating from where this leak was.....here is a picture...

Here is a pic of the new one just before it was put in....
