the relay is hidden under here...

thingy no 119

do you have rain sensitive wipers?

easy to tell - do you have a small (swan vestas size box glued to windscreen near rear view mirror) - can this be linked to the wiper thang?

if not - the wiring may well still be there and may be shorting out - remove dome light covers (pry off from rear, unscrew scres (remove bulbs) - celing stuff will then come down

Not on a '96

The buzzing sounds like the fan in the dome light which has something to do with the aircon.

I think the intermitant wipers are also tied to the the same big control relay which also does indicators, heated rear window etc.

These are known to fail, but a bit more than your average relay. I think approx £70-£120 depending on source.

Try a search on relay.

My dome light always buzzes, isnt this a cooling system for the light?

now you are just trying to be funny arnt you?

140 830 00 08 - blower, temerature sensor ventelation - <mounted in roof lining near sunroof switch - same part on loads of cars> 65 dollars - so about 50 quid. take it apart and WD40 it...?

Hello everyone, this is my first post. this forum is like a godsend (not the movie tho) :)

I have the exact same buzzing sound problem and it has been bugging me for a long time. Today I finally got down to fix it. I got the courage to open the light cover but now I'm stuck, what should I press/move to get to the blower?

Sorry for the bump, thought it'd be better than a brand new topic.

The whole dome light assembly should pull down from the roof - see those round holes that you have exposed ... stick a finger or two in there and pull gently from the front .... should make it easier to get to the innards !

It's almost there, but can't figure what's wrong. I'm too afraid to pop the plastic or bend the metal (any more)

there's this clip, I don't know how to move the plastic panel to free it. It just won't budge.

the clip on the left already freed, but the one on the right is not the same mechanism and I'm afraid to yank it too hard.
should the panel be pulled downward tilted to the back, or to the side?

yes I know I'm _very_ new. Should that reading light be removed before yanking the panel too?

Well, in another topic, my W202 (?) C class '98 classic doesn't have the option to close the windows and sun roof when pressing the close for a while so that's my next step. It seems it's very basic when it comes to options.

OK - no need to remove reading light.

It should just pull straight downwards from the front / centre - might need a gentle tug, but the clips shouldn't break,

The window open / closing thing will only work if you point the keyfob directly at the IR sensors on either the driver or passenger door - it won't work if the fob is in your pocket etc.

**EDIT** Some better pictures / instructions on removing the dome light in this thread, courtesy of Shude.

You could use a small screw driver to release the other catch. It's the same on my w202, the right side is a little harder to get at but it can be done without breaking it. Just slide the screwdriver where the catch is. hth

I don't want to jinx it but you guys are great, I haven't had so many replies this fast ;)

It's nighttime here so I can't work on it. Will be rushing from work tomorrow to do this.

and I thought the key uses RF code to open the car, I had no idea it also uses IR :-/

Yep the key uses both RF and IR to lock/unlock the car but only the IR signal activates the windows. You can also press the lock and unlock keys simultaneously to toggle how the car unlocks the doors, in mode 1, only the driver's door opens followed by all doors and boot on a 2nd key press. In mode 2, one press of the key unlocks all doors and boot. :)

BTW Welcome to the forum. :D

*EDIT* Apologies for straying slightly off topic.

Thanks guys for the warm welcome. I haven't been this excited about my car since I bought it. :)

*on topic:
does the wipers mechanism need annual oiling? I'm just about to get a new "head" for the wiper, since mine now does drrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrt sound whenever it sweeps.
