Wobbly DAS thing - also known as ignition barrel

Apologies for the cryptic title. My facelift 202 has the infra-red key which plugs into the 'ignition' barrel/switch. However the chrome trim around the key switch fell off the other day. As a result the barrel assembly flopped about under the dash. I managed to get it back together after partly lowering the under-dash panel, but the chrome ring is still a little loose.

Has anyone else had a similar issue? Do I need a new chrome ring?

Thanks guys. Well at least the car starts...

BlackC55, have tried tightening just now and it makes little difference. So on the next step - Malcolm's hint about removing and examining the ring to check for breakages.

This is one of several little annoyances in the car's tenth year: none fundamental, but if the trim is cheaper on the W204 I will not be a customer!
