How pleased are you with your Mercedes and would you buy another, and if not what will you go for instead?
I intend to buy a CLS next but could be tempted with an E class coupe.

Morning all, and a Happy Xmas to you. Questions answered below: -

Very pleased with it.

Yes I would buy another, but have another couple of bits to do to this one first, mainly a couple of upgrades.

Were I to change, it would probably be for an S Class. :)

I would buy again, something slightly larger though.

The 320 CDI is a peach though so I would take that again.

Merry Christmas to all!

I'm very pleased with my W220 S320CDI, a good combination of qualities for me:

- reasonably good fuel economy
- comfort...quietness, airmatic suspension + leather seats
- great air con
- reasonable power, but nothing like a big V8
- big boot space
- presence

I think I would buy another Merc but I'm not sure which model. Maybe a W221 or W222 S-class once second hand prices are reasonable. Or perhaps another immaculate W220?

If it wasn't a Merc then maybe a Porsche 997 gen 2 with PDK...amazing car! It beat a BMW M6 with 501bhp and a V8 Aston Martin on the roads of the Isle of Man driven by the Stig...despite being considerably the lowest powered car of the three, due to the way it puts down the power. See that Top Gear episode if interested.

In terms of being happy with the brand.... My 2006 W203 proved extremely reliable, with only a couple of very minor (electrical) faults in it's 9 years of existence.... and it's rust free. So based on my own experience the answer is a resounding Yes.

I am well aware that not everyone had the same experience, and that I may have just been lucky with buying a good car, and that my mileage is very low (currently 55k).

But the question was (to my understating) regarding one's own experience.

Said that... if I am tempted to look elsewhere, it is not because I am unhappy with any aspect of my MB ownership, but simply due to diversification.... sometimes I think that after having owned an MB for so many years, perhaps I should go for something different...?

Nope never CLK will be my first and last. Love it but the New MB are so far behind their peers its unreal that's why I went Audi.

Having had nine previous Mercs, yes i would buy one again but not to sure which one, i Know it wouldn't be another a R230 though.

My history confirms my thoughts :-

2 CLK's then a Lexus GS450h (great car but minuscule boot)
Then mistakenly got an XF (unmitigated disaster)
Then returned to Merc with a E350 Coupe
Then chopped that against a CLS 350CDI
Then chopped that against a C350e

I will stay with Merc as I have never had any problems whatsoever - very different story with the XF. I chopped the CLS in as I found it's size a real pain parking at the station - was never sure I would be certain of getting in if wide cars were parked either side. The C350e overcomes this but is still big enough to accommodate my 6' 2" frame !

I did look at another GS450h now the boot is a reasonable size but the price was far too scary now. Great car, very well put together and 0 - 60 in about 5.9 secs.

When they announce that a C350e Coupe is available then I will switch to that - the looks of a coupe (as its a mini S Class coupe I think it looks even better than the E) with the performance of the C350e (0 - 60 5.9 secs) and is a hybrid that should avoid the increased taxation likely in the future.

I've had four Mercs in the family, and currently have a CLS and a B Class for practicality. If I need to go somewhere were parking is restricted, the B Class fits in perfectly, plus it can accommodate as much as a small van.

Would I change from MB? No. My mate likes his BMWs, but I just don't like the styling. Even though the build quality isn't what it used to be, it is still way above the common car manufacturer, and way above that of Ford who are renowned for cutting corners.

Merry Christmas "Benzers"

  1. Pretty pleased.
  2. Happy to buy another.
  3. Going to have to scratch the AMG itch.

OP the CLS over the E Coupe.

Not in the foreseeable future and quite unlikely then.

We have bought our first Range Rover and barring catastrophe, I have no doubt it will be replaced with another one in due course.

:D The lament of many an R230 owner - doubt there's many crazy enough to have more than one :D

I'd have another Merc as it's a case of never say never, but they are not as good as the image the brand seems to have in the psyche of most. In my experience of 2 Mercs and 2 Jags the Jags were vastly superior cars in terms of ride, comfort and reliability! That said maybe it was just luck with the Jags and bad luck with the Mercs... back to Jag for me though.

I've had a few and yes I would buy another. MB has look after me over the years. I think I need to grow up a bit with my next car so will likely be an S Coupe.

Happy Christmas all, had my CLS 250 4 weeks now, very pleased with it, travelled 800 miles now and it's very comfortable, love the leather interior and the engine is super, so yes I would stick with Mercedes-Benz.....

Cant see me driving any other brand for a while, if ever. I haven't driven anything that gives you that special sort of feeling just sitting behind the wheel like a MB does.

I doubt it. The SLK isn't as well built as my old C43 was, and TBH the new generation of Mercs don't float my boat. I had a C205 when mine was in for servicing the other week and I was distinctly unimpressed.

When the SLK does go, it'll be replaced by something with a flat 6 in the back.. ;)

Cheers,

Gaz

Chuffed to bits with my car, next car hoping to be of the V8 variety so I will be continuing with the brand for the foreseeable future :)

Sad to say I wouldn't no. CL will be my last MB but I will also have it for many years running alongside a daily driver.

I've been converted to Jaguar after buying an X-Type as a DD, next car will be an XF.

The new E Class is to be the most technologically advanced car ever made (reportedly).

Let's hope so.

I'd sacrifice some of the tech for a super quick gearchange, some more aggressive styling on the AMG and four wheel drive over here :thumb:.
