Do you think these rims are worth this high price?

I'm looking for AMG styling 1 rims
F8.5" - R10"
Finding these rims in top condition ain't easy nowadays

Would you say these rims are worth the price on Ebay?
They are in very nasty condition and needs lots of attention to get back in shape to former glory!

Disc bolts are they titanium made?
Can these bolts be repaired/blaster/polished to showroom condition if they are oxidized?

I don't know if i should give seller a lowball offer for these rims as they are in poor and tatty condition?
They seem to be curbed and needs welding and further machining to get round.
It's gonna cost a lot of money to get them back in new shape

I would be suspicious that two wheels had no tyres, perhaps cracked(not holding air).
Cosmetically awful, and if they are out of round it's going to be expensive to make good.
If you can get them for virtually nothing they would be worth doing, maybe.

i prefer to buy good condition wheels, those ebay rims are surely not worth £1200 quids, maybe £50?

finding good specimens is difficult

On the fourth picture, the inside of the wheel looks very rough, a previous weld repair?

I have found in the past that when the tyres are removed from the wider rims it is usually down to damage etc.

Have you tried ringing or messaging him, he should at least be able to tell if you they have been previously repaired from visually inspecting them?

I just bought this set for £840 including delivery, so they are out there a little cheaper. Those seems a little expensive, but not in crazy bad condition. As has been said, I would perhaps want to check that they are holding air.

I bought mine unseen and I did ask him lots of questions, as I am overseas at the moment and couldn't view.

There is always a risk. Ask for some more detailed pics, evidence of cracks etc and pay by pay pal if you can.

Good luck. They are lovely wheels and I can't wait to get mine refurbished...when I get the funds!

can anyone confirm if these rims are out of stock from dealership?
when I asked dealer i was told there was a spezial order for them?

i was qouted approx £1100 for 1x front rim.
approx £1300 for 1x rear rim
total price for 4x rims £4800

that's an insane price tag!
WTF?!

There was a member selling a set of those in good condition with good tyres for £1600 IIRC

They've been around that price for well over a decade.

Those are S class wheels, check out the high offset

with spacers and w202 wheel studs for amg wheels would these rims fit my w202 amg?
if i can't find split version rims i might have to go with non split rims?

You need adapter bolts which have a M14 seat and a M12 thread for your car. You also need to get very long ones if you want to use 20mm spacers as well.

Check with alloy wheels direct. See if they have any bolts that long.

Did you have anymore thoughts on the rims? Fingers crossed that you get a decent set

why do some seller describe rear rims as 10.5" when they are 10" wide?
is it mostly a typo in ads?

i've been looking for these rims for a while now, but no luck sourcing them.
there's a sellerr on german ebay selling 4x front rims 8.5" wide for €1890 euros.
rear rims has the wrong rims size therefore i don't want to buy them.

i'm only looking for undamaged rims without tyres, it will be expensive to ship them to scandinavia if they are complete with tyres.

Yes, it's a typo. The wheels that you want are the following:

HWA 129 400 1702 rears 10 J
HWA 129 400 1502 fronts 8.5 J

I got mine from Carl Burgess at R129.co - Home of the largest used parts specialist for the Mercedes Benz R129 series SL-Class Roadsters. He specialises in W140 and R129 spares in the UK. I was looking for some and saw a picture of an SL320 that he had got in for spares on his Ebay site. The pictures were not that clear, but I thought it had the splits. I emailed and someone had taken them, but then he got back to me saying the guy no longer wanted them.

Maybe send him an email and he can look out for you? I'll keep my eyes peeled for you as well.

Do remember that the tyres will provide a good level of protection for shipping, but I understand the associated cost.

Good luck

Ian

hello Ian

i'm familiar with the partsnumbers, i search them on ebay from time to time.
i only found the bad ones i linked in my starting thread.

if you manage to find undamaged wheels please let me know.

thanks

I will let you know.

In reality, the market value for a good set seems to be £1500 + . Mine were £840 and will need a refurb, so that will be approx £500 I imagine.

Would a set of 18" staggered Carlsson rims which are freshly refurbished be any interest to you they are 90's period ?
