Blimey you can get a lot for (*well) under £5k

Chatting on line as you do with a mate and we got on AT for him as I have the SLK55

He'd need a four seater (he just would)

First one is nice and even local

E350

Second one could be a bit of a brave bill and money pit, but looks really interesting AND he'd have money spare to attend to surprises

CLK55

Not sure if it's for sale due to the sellers driving ban or as he is leaving the country, but with big boys pants on, it could be a stunning toy for the summer......

Man maths now being applied ;)

The second one is indeed a very rare, nay unique, car - '200 mph factory speed limit'... Either the seller is a hopeful fibber, or not all that knowledgeable about the car. The pictures are 13K miles old, too; I wonder if it still looks like that? The car at the petrol pump has a different registration plate, and looks to have only a single tailpipe, though that may just be the perspective.

I may be wrong, but I'm not sure I don't detect a slight whiff of fish...

It's an M113, though, so the engine should be bombproof; no worries there. If it was the same colour scheme as the blue one, I'd be off to (probably) buy it...

That CLK has been for sale for a remarkably low price for quite a while. It’s half the asking price of most other cars for sale. If the car exists, then it may be worth a punt with eyes very wide open.

I'd agree with that. I've spoken to the seller, who sounds decent - car owned three years, registered (in his partner's name) at their address, happy to email me the service history and the VIN - and if it all checks out, it could replace the CLK. I'll see...

The ad is definitely "off" a bit.

I'd personally wager there's something up with either the recon box,the roof or water ingress or something. But for sub 4 grand the engine, bumpers and wheels are probably worth that.

LOL....
" It has a factory 200mph limit( you can see in one of the photos)"

What you can actually see in the photos is a 200mpg speedometer......a very different think. The mans a fool!

Don't waste your time with the CLK55. If you call him, he'll say the car is sold but he has other cars for sale and the asking price is not what he wanted for it. He wanted or sold for a lot more apparently. Someone I know called him already and told me about it.
This is what I've been told about the black CLK

It’s not surprising though - a facelift CLK55 would be worth probably £10k not £3900.

I did notice the plate on the CLK was never visible.....

The E350 is piquing my mates interest though.
That does appear 'straight', so he's off to look at MOTs and talk the seller before doing a better history check (CV etc)

He's debating not telling the missus and just turning up with it - she'd love to blat around in it over the summer as well once she'd gotten over the shock
An older car (the CLK) less so I'd expect.

It's so much more modern than the Audis and even Saabs. He doesn't want a BMW....
He'd be happy the family being in that one

Gotta love a browse on AT

Just checked eBay; for a car with that sort of mileage the price is not suspicioiusly cheap, I'd say. Most of the others are diesels, tbf, and none of them are in that colour scheme.

Read up about the engine - not sure on years etc but they can have issues AFAIK.

CLK 55 convertibles are typically £8-10k with occasional outliers - I watch the prices as I’d quite like one or CLK 63. That one is very cheap for a 55 IMHO, but not necessarily cheap compared to non-AMG models.

Monkey see; monkey like; monkey want...

Picking up the blue one on Monday, subject to inspection and test drive. I offered a deposit, but the vendor is happy to keep it until then without; another good sign, and having spoken at length, and done checks, I don't hear any possible faint distant alarm bells at all. Genuinely full (for once) service history, mostly main dealer. The engine number is well past the range for the dreaded M272 balancer shaft issue, which I knew about. I'll be very surprised if it's not a straight car.

I did a TotalCarCheck full check; all good. The asking price is just £8 - yes, £8 - less than the Private Average valuation with them, so I'm happy with that; for those who never pay the asking price, that's a 0.17 % discount... :D :thumb:

I reckon it's a good 'un. Anyway, I have to buy it, really, just for the colour scheme...

Nice colour combo. I do like blue on Mercs.
I was almost going to comment on the matching Conti tyres all round too until I saw the inevitable joker in the pack, the Kustone Safy M06

Not at that price, no. Actually, just no; the ML suits me very well now.

Yes, as in so many other things, there's always one... It will have to go. With any luck it's badly worn anyway. Or maybe I could fit a matching Ditchfinder on the other side?
