12 years for this

This is shocking. How does 12 years between these animals seem justified, is the Judge on drugs ? Flog them and put them in the most horrific prison on earth.

Agree with you HB. Lets hope someone appeals this ludicrously short time in jail.

Edit.

And of course it is increased not decreased.

The aunt & grandmother should have been done for manslaughter, then focus should turn on these oxygen thieves all of which / whom should be dismissed

"It also emerged Shanay had complained to her teachers about what was happening at home but investigations found that the little girl's cuts and bruises were accidental.
A social worker said churchgoing Morris and Shanay had a close and loving relationship when she observed them.
On July 1 last year, weeks before Shanay died, a multi-agency meeting was held with Morris and the girl's school, Southglade Primary, but the case was closed, it was heard."

Social workers (if ever there was misnomer) - some good, lots absolutely useless and a danger to society as evidenced here. WTF was the school playing at?

So where the hell does "safeguarding" fall with the school and multi-agency.

Some severe incorrect thought processes going on here with the above.

As a parent and grandparent myself, reading that makes me want to shed tears.

I'm afraid the judges, and those at the top of the social care profession are so out of touch with what is going on in today's society. How can torturing a small child to death be rewarded with just an 8yr prison sentence. I'm speechless with it all.

The Judge: 'It is perfectly clear to me that the jury could not be sure that it was you who directly caused the head injury from which Shanay died; that it may possibly have been caused in some other way."

With the law requiring a finding 'beyond all reasonable doubt', the defence barrister was able to exploit this and secure a not guilty on the charge of murder, aided no doubt by the elder animal who was so plausible in hoodwinking the authorities. It seems the judges hands were tied by the sentencing guidelines…judges have to justify there sentencing otherwise the appeal is successful and sentence is reduced anyway.

Of course, to everyone looking in at this whole sorry episode, as reasonable and caring people, it is nothing but a travesty of justice.

The judge and defence did their jobs. The prosecution isn't mentioned but presumably did its job with the evidence it had. And the jury presumably discharged their responsibilities.

The reason it's an apparent travesty is because the system is skewed to protect the innocent from travesties.

We go by a presumption of innocence and the threshold required to change that to a conviction is set high.

The whole sorry episode is just sickening, from beginning to end.

A tragic end to a short and tragic life.

You are correct but, it's a pile of rubbish that this young girl lost her life.

I like to think it won't take too large a part of 12 years for someone to 're-adjust' their 'evil DNA' for them.

You are correct but, it's a pile of rubbish that this young girl lost her life.

And therein lies the dilemma.

Do you do more damage if you allow your anger and emotion to alter the balances and checks in the system?

You give social workers more power and you may do more harm to some familes - but give them less and you may do more harm to some of those who cannot defend themselves.

The real problem is preventing the crime and thereby protecting the victim. But that requires allow intervention - but one what basis? the risk is that the deranged or malicious could cause intervention - effectively creating a society where denouncement could ruin lives. So you protect a few more people but arbitrarily damage a lot more.

Setting good rules is hard.

My faith in the human race is totally lost. This and some of the other sick **** stories I have read on Twitter recently have me holding my head in dismay. The video of a woman potentially killing or permanently disabling a baby by swinging it around buy its head ****ing disgusted me to the core. Then there was the story of the sick hitch who posted a vid of her burning a tied up dog to death with a blow torch. Apparently it is part of a trend known as crush videos where women in high heels crush and torture animals to death whilst wearing high heels.
What the **** is wrong with people?

Oh and facebook refused to remove the video of the disgusting baby abuse because it didn't breach there rules of violence or abuse!!! Who the **** made up there rules? A ****ing bunch of psychopaths and child abusers?
