1999 C43 AMG Salvage Repairable CAT D

This was bought from Copart auctions formerly Universals hence the powered by VB2 photo.
Why sell it on? Seems a bit sinister to me. Can't see that a small amount of damage would effectively make this a Cat D

Any evidence that the w202 C55 speedo goes to 190 mph ?

The w203 i drove doesn't ....

Were the w202's built from converted C43's ? or designed as a C55 from the ground up ?

Gotta be honest if i'd bought a C43 and sent it to be converted , i'd want the 43 engine back as they aren't just going to bore it out , it's a whole new engine.

Did it come with those wheels as standard ? Thought they all came with Styling II's ?

So many questions ....

Hi,
I have no evidence as such, as it was something I read on the American forums some time ago, it was however on a link provided by the post supplier. There is plenty of info on the W202 C55 on the net
I was interested at one point to convert my C43 to a C55 as I had an accident damaged E55 available to me and as previously stated the engines are identical apart from the cubic capacity, but was put off by the electronics as certain control boxes were missing from the doner car.
As far as I,m aware all C55's were converted C43's though there are a few "fake" ones in the states with E55 motors fitted.
The standard C43 amg wheels are like the ones I got fitted to mine as shown in my avatar. The ones fitted to the e-bay car look like the ones fitted standard to the American spec 2000 model C43 though I always thought they were fitted to UK spec 2000 model cars too.

There is a member on here who has a genuine C55 ( he lives in Cornwall ) , but he doesn't post much , i'm sure he could clear up the questions ...

Can't remember his name though :o

EDIT :- I'm wrong , he works for a garage that had a C55 w202 in stock ( Buryas Bridge Garage )

I have seen one for sale once from a dealer with less than 30,000 miles they wanted in excess £25,000 for it.

That was the one at Buryas Bridge ....

I once read 7.
I also read that apparently AMG were still sketchy on their records for this "special order" AMG, so it would take a determined soul to get an exact figure, I should think!

Over the last few years though there have been a silver one on ebay UK, a silver one at Mercedes Crawley and another silver example at Sovereign Car Sales, a black one in Mercedes Enthusiast, and the aforementioned Burya's Bridge example. In addition, I recently read an old magasine article which tested the W202 C55 on Cambridgeshire fenland roads. Can anyone help me name the article, as I can't remember! :o

If we assume that the silver example for sale has been the same one, and the black magasine featured car is the same, that's 2 RHD for sure :)
Now come on guys! Own up. Who else has one?
We can have our own RHD W202 C55 directory :D

This is the correct 5.5 engine:

That looks like Manx plate, I think

I would suggest the mess of wires hints at a stolen recovered and they started it under the bonnet by playing around here - is that even possible?

Its a 55 Kompressor engine from a 211 or 230.

Everyone keep away ITS MINE!!!!!

Lol. Only joking.

I need to know if it runs or not.

Beauty.

I think you're dead right, there is something just not right about this car.

I still can't work out where it's from, the number plates are both black on white and not a format I can work out.

Hmm, think I've got it. South Africa.......CL - Stellenbosch

So why is what looks to be a very dodgy, stolen and messed with SA car for sale here?

Fingers and burnt comes to mind.

Anyone notice the boot lock is missing?

Doesnt look like SA

Anyone want to help me work down this list of world plates?

WORLD NUMBERPLATES

My vote goes for Itailian, 1994-1999 series. No provincial coding one :) :

Im still thinking that no provincial Italian one (was 1st registered here then over there) and CL - Province of Caltanissetta is listed

Do we have a forum prize for the winner? :D

To be honest, if you look at the engine pic the numberplate seems to be CL, then some numbers, then letters? Very, very odd and I can't understand the RHD angle either...
