1999 C43 AMG Salvage Repairable CAT D

Hi guys,

I spoke to the guy who's selling this car a couple of weeks ago and he kindly gave me the chassis number: Wdb2020332f819843

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think that's a C43 number.

I'm really interested in buying this car and will be keeping my beedy eye on the latest auction.

Hi mate,

The russian site ( while admittedly not foolproof , but is pretty good ) is finding no record of that VIN.

Be careful if you buy it , as it may well have started life as a '43 , but it now has a 55 S/C engine in it , which no w202 ever came with from the factory .

As others more knowledgeable than me have said , it is missing vital control units , that are specific to the VIN of the car the engine originally came from , unless you can somehow find this out ( no idea how you would ) effectively the car is useless.

If you could get the engine number , potentially you could get a VIN from it and that might point you in the right direction . Whatever way , it's gonna be expensive.

Lots of ifs , but if you go for it , good luck.

I may have a bid on this one this time.

I could make it go.....I just need the chassis number from the doner 55k car which would not be a problem to get.

I estimate at least 2k to get the parts to make it run. It would be a C55 with either a 55k loom from a donor car.

What I would need idealy would be a 55k'd vehicle without engine crash damaged.

I was interested when I thought it ran but a non runner is a whole new ball game (Which must be why the person who pressed 'buy it now' didn't hand over the cash).
How sure are you that you can get it running?
Is a custom ECU a possibility?

2) VIN was erroneously read from vehicle body or documents;
3) VIN is not of an original vehicle and was forged by criminals;

Try putting WDB and the F in capitals

Then cutting and pasting the VIN from the OP's first post and swapping the lower case to upper case ?

Because that's what i'm doing and it's not working .

I was looking for the spec on the Russian VIN lookup ...

Does the EPC say what engine it has in it ?

I,m sure there has been a misprint on the chassiss number as the E.P.C. cannot raise a vehicle data card on that chassis number.
