Hi Chas, How are you keeping ??? I did my arches to, seems that its a very common problem,additional to what you have stated i also cleaned away all the old dried out mud from around the wheel arch lip as this holds water and gave the area afterwards a coat of black rubberised underseal so mud from road cannot collect there, after painting mine, also brilliant silver, i gave the painted repair areas a coat of clear stone chip as i believe this is how the paint is damaged and rust then sets in.

Well done, good job. Even if MB did them they would still start to rust in two to three years after winter driving. You have done the right thing, but keep an eye on those arches for any signs of rust around the inside metal edges !

the accumulated mud in the arches that you removed will keep building up, so watch it too!!
