2007 CLS63 Torque Converter Failed!!!

Ask them for your old gearbox back and have it looked at by a specialist then you could even sell it on if it's a quick fix.
I'd agree but for the fact that getting a specialist to strip and check a bare gearbox that they can't run any diagnostics on prior to starting work will be an expensive exercise. I suspect that the OP will be happier to just chalk this one up to experience and move on.

I supose your right there Phil, in that case just enjoy the car after its been fixed.

You took the words right out of my mouth!

I would reconsider your need for the Tier 1 warranty. If your current problems are causing some pain then imagine the pain of a Head Bolt snap, add another £5k + to the budget.

The cover is like a new car warranty.

I have never had to pay for diagnostics.

I have never had a claim questioned or refused.

Vehicles are covered up 100,000 miles.

Without the warranty on my 63 I would have spent several thousand £s on repairs.

I may well reconsider getting it again but for now I'm putting the money towards this bill.

When do you expect to get your car back Gav78?

Wow:eek:, just caught up with this thread...sorry to hear this Gav, i know you got resolution, but at a high cost...no way i would have backed down but i suppose its a harsh lesson and i wish you well with the car...maybe worth dropping MB CEO office a line direct to see if you can get any further contribution...

Seeing as your in Wilmslow, in future i thoroughly recommend indy MBtech over in Warrington for any work or servicing, not far for you and they have courtesy cars, ask for Shane or Will...been using them for years with loads of MB's including AMG...i also recommend MSL but thought you may want local recommendations.

Thanks for the contact info, I have just emailed Gary and will chase it up with a call tomorrow.

I haven't used MBtech but have taken my s class to SPR Autos in Stockport several time and been happy with their work.

The only reason I took the cls to Mercedes was because I was under the impression it would be covered by the warranty I had taken out.

So, after much back and forth with Mercedes they still wouldn't offer any contribution so I ended up having to pay the full £5,220. The good news is that I got the car back yesterday and I've been having fun with it ever since! :)))

Well done Gav, good fo you. Now you have it, enjoy it :thumb:

At least you can be fairly confident the gearbox won't give you any grief!

I'm glad the whole thing is behind me and as has been said I don't have to worry about the gearbox now and it will be a major plus when coming to sell it.

On another note, I've just filled up again after burning through a full tank since Friday afternoon and 180 miles! :)

Great pragmatic attitude to have Gav, for so many others your experiences would be one big whinge-fest but you're just getting on with enjoying your car.

People should take a leaf out of Gav's book too much winging going on. Nothing's perfect engines break it's not always someone's fault that's life .
Enjoy the beast :)

LOl have you read any of the thread?

So its acceptable for a gearbox to be ****ed after being serviced by MB less than a year before with barely any miles.

And it was fully maintained by their network and serviced accordingly.

With such low miles on their top of the range car and the circumstances I think MB got away with this one

I can appreciate the OP wants to move on and enjoy the car but at over £5k it's quite a price to pay

Sorry to hear about this. No way would I be happy paying the full cost of the repair, no way. You obviously have so good on you and I just hope you enjoy the car massively. I've learned with cars to forget about how much they cost to buy, own, maintain etc. and to enjoy them. You very rarely get anywhere near what you spend on a car if at all when it comes to replacing and selling on. I paid 17.5k for my CLS 55 a few years back and recently a dealer offered me 5k in part exchange for a C63s. It's worth 10-12k privately, but I'd wait a long time to get such a price. I've decided to keep it and lavish it with whatever it needs. It's worth it to me as a car, as my dream car. Anyway good luck with yours.

Well put Chris
