2012 onwards SLK owners experience

I have just bought a 250 CDI AMG Sport on a 15 plate . The engine is very quiet . I had heard they we're noisy and was going to avoid but then I heard that after August 2012 the engine was revamped and made a lot quieter. A friend of mine that has a TVR Tuscan S was surprised that it was a diesel and was very surprised at the mpg and performance .
I think diesel sports cars are here to stay oh yes and the road tax is only £130 .
Michael.

I don't think our 250cdi is particularly noisy but I accept I haven't compared it to the driving experience of a petrol.
Last summer (top down) I was passed on the A14 by a porsche (can't remember the model). We both turned down the A12 towards Colchester in mixed traffic. I kept pace with him and the main noise in my car was his engine/exhaust rather than my diesel engine.

My wife's 14 R172 55, is a nice respectfully specked car, but quite frankly the suspension is awful, the slightest turn or curve in the road at lawful speed, the thing rolls like hell, to the degree and annoyance that I have been trying to get out of the lease to get into a PP version, but the swap is outrageous monies beyond me, so will live with it, have my own AMG car to play with. My wife loves the SLK car, she thinks it gets to 70MPH quite quickly!, but if you drive it with a bit of ambition, I personally found it very very disappointing, and anyone considering this car, should read C240sport97 write up on it, it is detailed and correct, its worth having PP fitted. This said if you just want to cruise the roads, they are a fun car to have, dependant on what you want from an SLK, if performance the R172 in standard, in my opinion is disappointing.

Hi Ricky s,

I drive a 13 slk55 on occasion have not notice d issues wrt roll in normal driving, granted its not a sports car. It's a very good car for what it is meant for and with a naturally aspirated V8. If I was to criticise anything on this car, it would be the transmission for me as it does not feel like it has been touched by amg. Certainly no mct as I had in my previous 2012 cls63, and feels ancient compared to the dct in my gts.

Great car for what it truly is, btw the car is way too heavy for a car of this size, I believe around 1700kg. Hence why maybe u feel it's a bit like a boat!

Will be a car in high demand over the coming months/years due the the mamg slc43
