Hi Guys

I have to service my farthers A180 diesel this week and it has a engine warning light on. Its a small picture of an engine lit up in orange. Its the new shape A180 on a 55plate, 30k miles.

How can I find out whats causing it? All I want to do is solve the fault, change the brake pads and then give it to the dealer so he keeps the stamps in the book with out getting conned.:bannana:

Someone more knowledgeable with regard to automotive technology will be along soon, but the CEL indicates often relates to a problem with the breathing or emissions, I believe.

In any event, the first step ought to be to hook it up to STAR and read the fault codes, which should give more detail about the exact problem.

Engine warning lamp on an A is sometimes the ECU with built in MAF

Ollie will know in the morning

Thanks guys, I guess Stars is a MB tool or is it software I can download?

STAR is the fault code reader used by MB and indies, it is not something that you can buy easily.

Go to an indie and have the code read out.
