A190L Auto GEar change issue

Well I'm not sure even if it is an issue.

Some times gear won't change up until engine has reached 2500 to 3000 rpm despite only pushing acceleratior pedal down 'just enough' and then a bit more just to get to the gear change.

I understand the gearboxes are adaptive to driving style and maybe previous owner was a bit heavy footed.

Could the adaptive part be reset at all? anything else I should look in to?

Thanks in advance.

Tom

P.S due for service, booked in for Friday could engine oil change help?

If this happens when the engine is still cold then it's due to the ECU holding the revs up to warm the Cat more quickly.

The adaptive gearbox is constantly adapting and will have assumed your driving style by now.

Does it hot or cold (intermitent about 50%) I even have gearbox set in "Winter" mode to drop revs.

Also just a thought when using the Tiptronic gear change I have to toggle down to the gear I'm in before coming back up where I would have expected to go straight to current gear whether I toggled up or down.
(If I'm in 'D' if I toggle up stays in 'D' if I toggle down '4' is displayed even if I'm in 2nd so I have to toggle down to 2nd)

Where as when I drove a MB van with tiptronic if I toggled up or down gear changed up or down accordingly.

I think this is because its not a true manual control of the box. If you select '4' then this is the top gear it will use, so it still has freee use of 1, 2 and 3 as well.
'D' means 'use all the gears' so there is nothing to toggle up to, so if you are expecting to see '5' then you won't as thats the normal case for 'D'

So really the tiptronic is only to override the gearbox on down shifts, to make it use a gear lower than it wants to. Think of it as 'requesting a lower gear' rather than 'demanding a lower gear'
