Just wondering if it's possible to add split folding rear seats to a W202 ?
Has anyone done it ?
Would it just be a case of trying to find some on ebay ? Probably not many about as it's not a popular option when new.
Any thoughts/idea welcome ! ;)

I'm not sure but i'm sure it was available as a option when new - Wasn't it ?
If it was, you would think it would be a easy seat swop ?

My W202 has split folding rear seats, so it definitely was an option.

isnt the tank in the way?

I think you're thinking of the 190E!

The W202 just has a steel rear panel which is all welded into the parcel shelf etc - the fuel tank sits underneath.

The short answer is no, it's not possible/worthwhile to retrofit, much too much serious work involved. The seats would all be different as well.

The only realistic option is to buy another W202 with folding seats IMHO.

Hi,
I believe some of the cars fitted without folding rear seats, had a solid steel sheet across the back of the back seats, you could of course cut this away with a jig saw and i dare say fitting of the 60/40 split folding seat would be reasonably straight forward, but i would want to ensure myself that vehicles with folding seats did,nt have additional bracing instead of this steel sheet.
I have been trying to find a grey or black leather replacement interior for my C230K with 60/40 split folding rear seat since 2004 and not been able to find one so i do agree it was a very rare option especially on a pre-facelift. If it is any help i think it was standard on C43's, if it was,nt then i have never seen one without it

I was looking at Peters c43amg on the last gtg and it has that option.First time i`ve seen that

Hi,
Both my pre-facelift C230K and my C43 have folding rear seats, but the data card on the C43 makes no mention of this so i assume it was standard equipment on it. The C230K makes no mention of it either, but does mention option code 287 "Through loading facility" which i always took for the opening hatch behind the arm rest though could be the folding seat option.

My brother-in-laws facelfit W202 had split fold rear seats. Definitely a worthwhile option.

Although as stated not sure if a retro-fit may be as straightforward...

Would a retrofit perhaps effect the chassis? does the chassis with the option have additional supports?

Shells are different, major project to convert.

I (and 124works) made a ski-hatch thingy in my W211. Works well for my partners sons fishing rods!

Russian site shows the different rear panels here.

And the "ski/fishing rod" bag here - with a jigsaw this probably would be a simple enough upgrade (folding seats looks like a step too far).

Certainly was on my E-class. The panel behind the armrest conveniently pulls out so you would not know it was there unless you were looking for it

Can you access the sheet showing a ski bag for the W211? More interested in the flaps

No "ski bag" shown on the Russian site for the 211 - here's the diagram for folding seats.

The iagram on the Russian site seems to be quite clear. The closed version is sheet meatl. The version with folding rear seats has a beam arrangement which will be for body stiffness since the sheet metal has ben cut away. So, using a jigsaw to create an opening would be unwise unless you strenghthened the shell below the cut.

The seat back itself is a straight swap IIRC but yes, some major reinforcement work is needed to the shell to make up for the missing panel.

If anyone fancies doing this mod I will have a complete cloth interior from a pre-facelift 1997 C230K with the folding 60/40 split rear seat option that fingers crossed will be for sale (very cheap) if i get the C36 interior i have found.

Thanks for the replies !! Looks like it's a bit too much work really with the shell needing to be strengthed etc
It's definatly a good option to have but not many cars with it !
