Adding Split Folding Rear Seats To A W202 - Is It Possible?

Thanks for the replies !! Looks like it's a bit too much work really with the shell needing to be strengthed etc
It's definatly a good option to have but not many cars with it !
My previous W202 c230k had it, both split/folding rear leather seats and climate control! RARE! :'(

Hi,
I have been thinking about this regarding the body Saloon shell differences, but looking at the EPC there was only one shell available from MB for both face lift and pre-face lift cars. My understanding was that as more options became available the shell was continually updated to reflect these options so very early 202 shells would not have been able to fit the folding rear seat option, but once the folding rear seat option was introduced all subsequent cars would of been able to take the seat option.
I think if the O/P was to remove his trim pannelling from the back seat, and if he had a complete steel sheet (with just a cut out corresponding to the rear seat centre arm rest in it) between the boot and passenger compartment then his shell would be to early for this option to be fitted, but if he has the opening then he would be able to fit it and it would be very straight forward to fit it between the boot and passenger compartment

The only option for shells was with-sunroof or without AFAIK ;) . When the cars were built in 1992 in preparation for release in 1993 they already had the bodykit mountings for the C36 which were not used until 1995 so they *do* think ahead for a lot of options :)

, you may have to fabricate some brackets. The metal panel is just spot welded on, i know someone who took it off and put a c43 interior in. its all doable if you have the time..

Well could,nt have thought to far ahead as my C43 is a T plate with no holes for the headlight levelling sensors yet a W plate shell has the holes already there.

On the Russian site the two rear panels both have two versions (part numbers) with the same to/from chassis numbers (probably the facelift/prefacelift change over). Implies these panels must both been fitted in soild and fold down versions in both facelift and pre-facelift.

Question is does anyone have a non-folding car with a big hole in the rear panel. Mine is the the solid type.

Anyone actually done the ski bag conversion? Really fancy it in mine, currently need to wrap my board in a bed sheet as not to damage the leather seats.

Mine's got split seats & its an original pre-facelift W202

Hi,
I have fitted the thru loading facilty, trap door at the back of the centre arm rest, very easy.
I have a spare split folding seat (cloth) for a W202, if any one fancies trying to do this, but they will need the floor brackets (at least).

Hi,

If anybody is going to do this I've got the catches that are fitted to the parcel shelf to hold the folding part of the seat in position.

both my W202's have split seats!
thaught it was standard!
my C180 has a flap behind the arm rest which
is spec code 287 "ski inboard loading facility
through-loading feature"
does this mean split folding seats?
and also should i have a ski bag? or just the flap?

Neither of mine have it, to make matters worse my mates almost poverty spec Esprit does!

I bet that's one word in German, although I wouldn't try to pronounce it..

My C43 has split folders so seems standard (and very useful for a car like this) but no ski hatch. Ex Merc demonstrator so not surprised (assuming they spec'd it).

yea i thaught it would be use full when i braught the car
but iv never used it yet lol:doh:

I've used it quite a few times over the past few months, mostly for carrying laminate boxes and other flooring materials.

My poverty spec C230K had it with 287 option also, as gridlock says i believe it was standard on a 43 but i also had no 287 option on it though it has now, kindly donated by my C230K.
