All C43 AMG owners - What shall I do?

Yeah have the 2016 version. Didn't tell the dealer. Should I register it as a problem with them?

No reason given it was supposed to be built this week but is delayed until middle March. I have waited a long time because I wanted the black ash dash and its a restricted option so the order went through mid December

According to dealer HUD delayed my car by 6 weeks. Due mid March

Dear Colleague

Further to our interim update last week, we are now able to provide a more detailed technical explanation regarding this issue.

Due to the positioning of the front axle differential on right hand drive cars, the steering position differs very slightly compared to left hand drive models. When the steering is on full lock this steering angle difference can result in the front tyre skipping sensation. This is more pronounced during cold weather and when larger wheels and low profile tyres are fitted.

We can assure you that our technical specialists, as well as independent experts such as DEKRA, concur that the cars remain completely safe to drive.

Fitment of All Season tyres counteracts the sensation. We are therefore securing sufficient stocks of these to provide to customers who find this uncomfortable.

· Mercedes-Benz Cars UK will contact GLC customers who have already registered a Compass complaint:
• Customers with 17”, 18”, 19” and 20” tyres will be offered a set of All Season tyres (once available) and fitment free of charge
• For GLC 43 AMG customers who have cars with 21” tyres, a 21” All Season tyre is not currently available. We will offer these customers the option of taking 20” wheels and All Season tyres, or waiting for 21” All Season tyre availability

· We would ask you to please do the same for GLC customer complaints that you have received and managed locally or for any future GLC complaints about this issue until further notice

· Please also take the following action for customers who have ordered their car but have yet to take delivery, and for future customers of existing dealer and pipeline stock until further notice:
• Please make sure they are aware of this characteristic.
• Customers proceeding with delivery have the option to take All Season tyres as soon as they are available or to wait and change to them if/when they experience this sensation in Winter 2017/18.
• For customers who do not wish to take delivery of their GLC with summer tyres, please offer a courtesy car until the All Season tyres are available for their car.

For all the cases above concerning provision and fitment of All Season tyres, please submit a goodwill claim against damage code 2113800.
We will provide updates concerning any interaction we have with your customers, together with availability of the aftermarket All Season tyres and the logistics process involved.

No mention of MB looking for a permanent fix

MB accept there's a mechanical fault, but having recently been under our car with the service manager, removed the underbody guarding and a few other parts, I could see the drive shaft to the nearside passes through the engine sump, in my opinion making it impossible to reposition or move

MB might offer more information at a later date clarifying their plan - lets hope it's more positive

This has major residual / resale implications for current 2016 & 2017 GLC owners. Not such a problem if you purchased via pcp or finance, but we paid cash - eeek

Thanks Tony. I'm so glad I found your video first which has helped us getting together with others, and it snowballed from there on. I can't help but think that if us all didn't make this fuss, and didn't go against all those who keep on saying they all do it and that it is normal and don't get what the fuss is about and much worse. It was a shame that it wasn't just Mercedes UK, the dealers, but also fellow motorists.

Still lots of details to sort, especially for me as I'm in the exception category, but for now let's assume the positive outcome. Raise the glass and enjoy the moment.

Indeed. I'm sure it is a case of sloppy quality control regarding the statement made. which is the one constant throughout all of this.

My GLC43 on 21" AMG wheels is also unclear, and you are right both the C43 and E43 aren't mentioned. I'm sure they'll be included. And if not we will campaign a bit more and create some more fuss to help you guys and girls as well Us motorist should come together on things like this and only accept the highest standards.

Isn't that the hard truth. No mention of the owners that are suffering from excessive tyre wear. And importantly no mention of modified steering parts in the pipeline either.

Imo the only positive aspect is that MBUK have eventually admitted there is a mechanical fault.

Yes the compound of all season tyres is less of a compromise for use in the summer then winter tyres. Saying that in theory they should be more of a compromise all round. However, some get rave reviews, and how many of us would truly notice the difference in everyday driving is a question but I assume has a negligible response.

It is a concern though that tyres will be used to mask a mechanical problem. But I'm sure that some will say; the same who said we didn't have a problem, that it is all about choosing which compromise is best.

Not sure about whether this really will impact residuals as I would imagine most 3 year old GLC's will be sold back to a MB dealer and they certainly won't be flagging up this issue in their resale value. Remember in 3 years time this issue will probably not be on the radar and those people in the market for this type of vehicle will still pay good money to get one; mostly from MB dealerships. I usually pay £ and never expect to get more than 50-60% of purchase price when I sell my car after around 3 years ownership. Having said that I have had cars that have done considerably better than that but in general that's what I look for which normally works out roughly to what PCP packages are. So I still think paying cash and getting a decent discount isn't a bad news story for owners.

It is difficult to say for certain, how an what changes have been mad for RHD. Mercedes seem to suggest it is purely steering, which in turn could indicate it isn't just 4Matic vehicles. But they haven't acknowledged (yet) the differences in planetary gear set on the 4Matic models. And what other differences are they.

I suspect this is just the beginning of getting to the bottom of this issue rather than the end.

But LOL I see that some still say it is normal

Well I think Grober has just posted some interesting pictures which clearly demonstrate that this severely impacts the 4MATIC vehicles. If that is confirmed, then so much for Mercedes stating the whole of the differences yet again

I think it would be good to gain some clarity on what this means for the C & E owners. More so for the C owners in this thread
