Average to high kerbs will still trash the spokes on a lot of Benz wheels as they tend to balloon out further up the wheel, so those rim protectors will not save the wheel as a whole.
I must be missing something here. The SL350 is a lovely looking car, putting either plastic outriggers to detect the kerb or a dental brace on the wheels will make it look like pimped pram. Steel wheels would downgrade the appearance just as well.
I just had a set of Eagle F1's fitted and they have a "rim protector" strip which does not look unsightly. I don't know how effective they are as I know how to park
The raised rim protection strip on tyres is primarily to protect the leading edge of the wheel from stones and road debris etc, while it may offer limited protection when you lightly graze a kerb, in most cases the kerb will push the tyre wall back and the wheel has no protection at all.
I've seen plenty of steel & alloy wheels with stone chipped edges where tyres with no rim protection strip have been fitted, so they do work for the reason they have been designed, which was not hitting kerbs.
Gaffa Tape???
£5 a roll, silver or black, trim with a slitter knife, replace easily when scuffed - no need to deflate the tyre!
Ask a pedestrian to guide you to the kerb, but make sure they're not carrying a white stick first!
