Another Speeding Thread

Wiltshire DO offer courses for 60 zones too, Paul's got one after being caught one sunny sunday afternoon on the A36 (69 mph in a 60!)

Hope you get one too, IIRC they do them in Swindon, Salisbury & Bath.

Kate

Don't tell me I have to do it in Wiltshire as well? It will cost me 60 quid to get there:eek:

. anyway apparently it costs 500 pounds for him to represent you

That's incredibly cheap if so! I paid my lawyer £1,000 + VAT (up front, with the potential to pay more if the case lasted more than one sitting) last time I was in court, and the case didn't last very long...

If he turns out to be legit - I'll grab his number too... you never know ;)

M.

i've been told by the guy that MOT'S my vans that there is a guy that will contest your speeding ticket for you in court and prove that they are not accurate apparently he is one of the two men that originally designed the speed camera system one of which said it was accurate and the other said it wasnt accurate enough.

Sounds like a nice story, but...

You may be able to challenge how a speed detection device is used and, if you're clever enough, may be able to introduce sufficient doubt about the quality of the evidence provided on the basis that the device was misused, but you can't actually challenge the accuracy of the device itself. That's because the device itself is Type Approved, and as such you can't challenge that approval.

I'll tell you what, for £475 I'll act as an "expert witness" in court and get you the same result: If you win, the prosecution pays your costs and I'll be up £475; If you lose I'll be up £475

No it came with a list of other local authority places where it can be done. Somerset is run by a different company to the Wiltshire ones so I guess that's an issue! Jamie had his from Bristol camera at Taunton, Gav was caught in Pilton (nr Glastonbury) & did his in Bristol!

Have you got his number?

number to get you off your ticket.

sorry for delay i called the number today to see if it was the right number and the original guy who's name was Carl Miller has left and martin has taken over from him. i was told there is lots of ways thay can help it sounds like its worth a call.

the number is 0845 0944544 hope it helps.

Mm, I think overtime is the reason so many are out over the weekends. As I understand it the "partnership" vans are staffed by officers on their rest days....least thats what I've been told. Could be wrong.

Thats bang on for South Yorkshire, the safety partnership camera vans are staffed by road traffic officers on overtime.

I never knew that being a policeman/woman gave you so much free time. I hope they're declaring this second income to HMRC ;)

This advice is absolutely spot on you cannot challenge the accuracy of the device as they are all home office approved tested and calibrated.

You will also never be able to introduce sufficient dout on the evidence provided by fixed post cameras, gatso, truvelo, peek red light cameras etc. Unless there is a glaring fault or error most magistrates just dismiss it.

However you may be able to cast doubt upon the operation of a hand held laser gun particularly the Generation II units but this is a very risky course of action and could end up landing you with serious court costs if you lose, as in one West Yorkshire woman who challenged the operation of a New Generation III laser gun coupled to a camera, she lost in the magistrates court, then appelaed so the case was escalated in front of a judge, lost the case again and ended up with £15k in court costs, amazingly she is considering a final appeal?

The reason her husband a physics professor says he can prove why the gun is not accurate, despite him previously failing twice to convince the courts. Madness

Very wise advice, I always go by the following

The 2 Rules of Holes

  1. When you are in one stop digging.
  2. Rule 1 does not apply to miners.

Sorry to hear about your ticket - bet it was on the bridge over the Cricklade turn off..

The A419 is heavily patrolled by these vans both in Wilts and in Gloucester too. To be fair there have been many serious accidents along that stretch - the problem being that there are turnings that allow the traffic to cross over the central reservation - especially between Cricklade and the new Blunsdon bypass.

That the one Crockers:o

The whole area is a nightmare to be honest.

The A420 Swindon to Oxford road (joins the A419) is littered with cameras to prevent further problems (people forgetting to steer and using the wrong arches under Acorn Bridge) occuring.

In fact, the fastest speeding motorist was caught on this road... 172mph!

Ah! the good ol' 420! My regular commute for 10yrs, got stopped 4 times and was diverted off 3 times due to accidents. Not bad for ~5000 trips along that stretch of road. :o
