Hi,

Got a little issue with the C55 I just bought. The passenger side folding mirror, does not fold!

I have taken the casing of and all the wiring is in tact and when the button is pressed you can hear the motor click and engage. So I assume its just seized as I can see some light rust on the mechanism.

Anyone know of an easy way to free it up? Do I need to take the whole mirror off?

Cheers,

Terry

You could try WD40. These mirrors are prone to sticking and wiring breaking. Mine was also stuck and intermittently the flasher stops working despite cleaning, refitting etc.

I am assuming that you are referring to the entire mirror & housing not folding in/out. As opposed to the actual mirror adjustment..

Yeah thats right - none of it folds in or out all the other functions work. What area do you WD40 the wee cog? As most of the motor looks encased.

There is a cogwheel visible when the mirror is folded, at the lower part of the mechanism - I lubricate that regularly (previously with WD40, now with Silicon spray lubricant). I can't see anything else exposed that can be lubricated... having said that it always creaks a little, even when lubricated, which does annoy me.

Right I have soaked the internals in WD40 and still I get a tiny shudder when I press the button, but no folding. Do you normally need to leave the WD40 for a couple of hours to soak in?

Is there any mileage in stripping the mirror down?

Hi terry, suggest you use penetrating oil spray, leave to soak overnight, then get someone to operate the fold button while you assist physically the fold movement. If this fails, have a look and fiddle with the 2 wires going to the mirror. if still no joy,try pressing hard on the fold button. The problem could be a relay contact,or the fold/extend push buttons in the switch assembly s

might I suggest to spray the workings in future with white spray grease because
WD40 drys out and will only last a few days, couple of weeks

mine broke becasue someone tried to pull it off. this photo shows the bit that needs to be oiled. see the rust.

may I know how you take out the motor from the axis? I found some plots that shows the metal axis is combined by two shorter ones, but I have no idea how to separate them.
