Anyone seen any good number plates on cars lately?

51 N was issued in October 2000, when it was sold for £9000 by the DVLA.

None of the reverse series plates (ie: with the numbers before the letters) were issued before the mid 1950s, and they continued to be issued by some licensing authorities up until the mid-1960s (even after the suffix-style plates were introduced in 1963).

This site will tell you when/where (or whether) a plate was issued:
Numberplates.com: When and where was your number plate issued

and you can check whether a plate has been sold at auction here:
Previous registrations search. Searches previous style registrations

Great post. I am having lots of fun going through these websites.

I have seen a couple of plates that I like, not too expensive either.

One small problem though,I have my existing number etched on all of my windows............................

In Torbay I have seen COM 1C on some TV comedians car, and we have a retired professional snooker player with CUE 1.

On the site that is selling the C43AMG Estate there is a Rolls Royce being sold with PEC 1L (can't see any significance) its price with plate when I looked was £3100

John

COM1C that's Jimmy Tarbucks's...

Ray Reardon used to live near to me, he had 1 PRO or PRO 1..

The best I've ever seen locally was

BED 69 0K :bannana:

And the profession?

Bed salesman......

There was once a gent in Stafford who had "1U" this chap was the chair of an elite vehicle registration club... this was before the internet...

Anyone seen this number before?

It was once on a Royal Roller..........

And I nearly purchased COS 24V when I had a Cossie 24 valve Scorpio Granada..

Many years ago I used to be in the nightclub business in Soho.At that time I used to see Paul Raymond driving around Soho with the number FU 2 on his car.At that time he owned most of Soho, which he then rented out to the sex shops and other dens of iniquity.

I just did a quick Google on it,its now up for sale at £525,000.

Belongs to a guy called John Hudson. It was originally on a moped, which he bought in 1966 for about £17. He also has 123 U and some others.

Personally seen quite a few over the years; Steve Parish's Pen 15  (number plate that is!), Cliff's MOV 1T and ALF 1E :( (Not mine sadly)

Replace the windows :D

One small problem though,I have my existing number etched on all of my windows...

When side-glass etching was in vogue, people with private plates tended to have the VIN etched instead of the registration.

However, if the car is ever stolen and recovered, the police can check the registration history to see whether the plates ever matched. And the original plate would probably go back on the car if you ever sold it.

You can get the number etched out, but that in itself may look a bit suspicious.
