8AD , on an older beige Audi.

The plate must be worth a few quid.

Can't remember if I posted on this very thread before (970 pages!!! ) but round my way there's a old grunter who drives a Daiwoo matiz (not even the chevrolet one) with a 2 digit number plate. The car has not got a straight panel and would be lucky if it's worth 50 quid. What's a 2 digit number plate worth nowadays? ? At least 50 grand ??? Nutter

I've never understood things that way around although I can only assume they didn't go out and pay market value for these plates as I've seen this kind of thing before.

Yep definitely had from a older car. But ffs sell the plate and buy a decent car ! I've only had one experience of a matiz and that involved a steep muddy sandy gradient to a Spanish beech but that's a whole different story :)

Maybe they don't because as you stated above - not a straight panel on it.

At least they can't easily damage the plate!

Ok ill change my reply. Sell the plate and buy one-off those Citroën plastic bumper car thingies. Least hes less likely to damage someone elses car :)

A quick bit of reverse searching on the database shows some extremely costly plates on some very modest cars, e.g.
A1 - listed on a 2007 Mini Cooper
A12 - 1997 BMW 328i
B1 - 2014 Smart

Of course other similar plates are on some high end cars, but presumably a fair number of owners have held onto old plates for a long time despite the huge value increase.
