Apple CarPlay issues 2022 Vito (W447)

What do you guys use to sound deaden the bulkhead?
Dynamat. Do the roof too ;-)

Dynamat is self adhesive. Once covered then cover with anthracite boot carpet and spray adhesive. Easy peasy.....

Roof trim comes down easily. Its screwed on in two places under the overhead control panel which easily pops out.

Slight thread hijack update.

Apparently mine is still sat in the car park at the factory in Spain waiting on to be transported which means it could be any time.

Honoured to have you join in on thread Jason although a new Vito is very worthy of its own thread too. 🤗

Great news it’s built and good to go though.

Exciting times. Keeps up updated mate. 👍

Ant.

I was twiddling with my knob at work today......

and discovered that we have 9 speed boxes, on a van !!!!

Back in my days we wore lucky to actually have a floor without holes !!!!

I'm off to lie down ......

Soooooo it looks like it has made its way to the shipping docks in Spain. Apparently.

Looking at the Carplay issues, would a wireless adapter solve the issues?

I know it still needs connecting via USB, and have Wired Car Play fitted but browsing other forums, this has appeared to work in some cases as the connectivity issues could possibly be down to poor bluetooth implementation on the Merc head unit.

That’s great news Jason. Shouldn’t be too long a wait now then. 🤞🙏

Good call on the wireless adapter. I think someone else on this thread suggested it early on. Might be worth a go. However, I’m certain that the Apple CarPlay doesn’t rely on Bluetooth to connect. I think it’s hard wired via the lightening cable. But there again, I was wrong at least once before. 😁

MBUK refused to cough up for a retro Sat Nav so I’m hanging on for a software fix in Q3 of this year. 🤞

Meanwhile I’ve fired up my old iPhone 7 and it’s never once auto disconnected from CarPlay. So this issue seems linked to the very latest iPhones. 🤷‍♂️

Cheers Ant,

Well, doing a bit more digging, and i am not sure how valid this is but i found this on YT, which may help/work?

I cant test it yet as i havent got anything to connect it to yet!

Also, I am wondering, (as many seem to report it disconnecting when hanging up a phone call), if BT is functioning in the background, and the headunit or phone gets a bit screwed up on hang up.

Cheers Jason,

I’ll watch that later on.

I’ve never had any phone call related issues tbh but it seems there’s lots of different issues with many variables.

On a positive note I’ll bet you’re like a kid waiting for Christmas. Please keep us posted on eta so we can share your excitement. 🥳

Excitement has turned into slight desperation now as I really struggle to work out of an estate car.

:D

This video killed my browser! Beware......

Ok slight update.

Without going into the reasons just yet, I am currently using a loan new shape Citan with the latest wireless MBUX system and it appears this also has the same problem with CarPlay dropping out after a few mins, but not every time I use it.

It drops off, says ‘starting wireless CarPlay’, after about a minute it then says ‘waiting for Apple CarPlay’, or something like that, and then gives up and says it couldn’t connect but has established a Bluetooth connection.

Doesn’t work even using wired.

Now, this has kinda jogged my memory as we have a 2017 Kia and I also had the same issue but put that down to the knackered usb cable. I have put in a new one now but haven’t really been out in the car recently to test it.

In my opinion, I am beginning to think this could be down to Apple and ios16.

Also using iOS 16 and an iPhone 11 Pro. No issues with mine. Head unit is NTG5S1, 2015 e-class.

Just out of interest, have you tried a full factory reset on the phone? Doubt it’ll do it but sometimes buggy stuff has been resolved for me over the years like this.

Just got me thinking. Is it worth NOT having a Bluetooth connection paired or set up with the MB head unit (I.e. not carplay connection)? Could it be trying to pair with Bluetooth once carplay started and kicking it out of the CarPlay connection.

So, literally just use wired CarPlay and no other connection at all with the head unit? Might make it simpler just to rule it out. Shouldn’t be the case but with IT there are always issues because reasons…
