Astronomical service cost

Some people don't seem to be bothered. Perhaps if they also have a Porsche or an Aston etc, then MB servicing looks cheap.

I remember one of these discussion where a poster though it was marvellous that the dealer reminded him every year about having his a/c serviced as otherwise he would forget

Or when one's tyres are really quite worn with only a risky 7mm or 6mm left.

It's good that some people are not bothered by it. They can pay to keep the main dealer network going so that people with more sense than money can run an MB relatively cheaply and still get the same, if not more, enjoyment! :D

I have a 2007 220CDI estate with 96k on the clock - I take it to MB for servicing and pay up - at least you've got peace of mind..had no problems with it and prices seem reasonable when I look at works done - generally basic servicing. I do live in the North East - not sure that makes any difference to pricing ! :-)

Some dealers offer up to 50% discount on labour charges for cars once they reach a certain age. I've read that some of them are no longer doing this, so maybe a few with older cars are in for a shock at their next service.

Most of the MB dealers used to supply free courtesy cars, now some are charging for them too. Some even charge you to sit in the showroom and wait for your car, yet the workshops are always busy?

I think it depends on the dealership.

I took my car to MB Tonbridge a few times even though it is quite a trek.

They are second to none in the service department and deserve to have their ramps forever full of customers.

I have a friend who is clueless with money and when he takes his expensive German car in for a service he is flattered by the big bill which he takes as evidence that the garage has done much needed work, if the bill wasn't large he'd be worried.

The ML is now telling me it needs a service
Spoke to the dealer and they quoted £420 including a pollen filter
The local independent (Mercs) quoted £230
The use gen parts and they can log on to update the service records
Don't think the ML will be seeing the inside of another main dealer
