Hi all,

I urgently need to replace my THB take and talk for my Nokia 6280 for a Parrot bluetooth one for my Nokia N95. I was looking at the Parrot 3200 but wondered whether I should wire it poverty spec, i.e with a speaker and no ignition on etc. as I have already the +12v & earth feed from my last kit or should I, as I'd very much like to, feed it through the cars speakers and utilise the steering wheel buttons for calls.

I know there is a connects2 lead to use the steering wheel buttons but only with the parrot evo 3000 (no screen) I will forgo this luxury and buy th e 3200LS to get mute functions and route throught the car speakers.

I have a pre-facelift 203 C Class with COMAND 2.0.

Any hints tips advice very welcome.

Cheers

Jacob

radio mute is from the iso Connector block A Pin 3

Take the ignition sense wire from the 12V accessory socket which runs allong the centre trim past the gearbox , look for the loom with black fabric tape on it with a brown , black/yellow and another cable on it for illimumination which i forgot the colour of. Basically the 12v ignition sense cable is the black/yellow one. You may or may not connect this but when connected to the 3200ls it will come up on the screen and ask you if you want to transfer the call to the handset when you with the ignition off.

The reason you need to take it from outside the ISO blocks where you would normally find it is due to the radio being controlled by D2b bus and not needing that feed into the ISO block.

3200LS is a really good system. I didnt personally install mine but its really great :)

Thanks fuzzer

Really helpful. Is there ISO connectors to the rear of COMAND 2 or are the connectors plugged in to the Can-bus in the passenger footwell? How would I get the audio routed through the speakers and should I forget the wheel control buttons?

Thanks a bunch!

Im sure comand still used the iso blocks too on the back of the unit , so to get to it your gonna have to take the dash apart. As for the audio through the speakers , the parrot comes with a universal mute device . not sure how it works. Try the parrot site for the install instructions and it might tell you more there.

Comand does have the require ISO connectors on the back.

Morning Alfie

So are you saying that it will be a straight forward plug and play with the standard parrot ISO connectors without the need for an additional harness. If so would all the wires in the connectors correctly correspond? E.g Ignition on and Mute etc

No I'm not saying that as I personally have not installed a Parrot kit. However, I suspect that it could well be very straight forward.

Ignition deffo won't. You will have to tap into where i said as the W203 doesnt have it at the ISO block. But i suspect it should be pretty easy. Hardest part for you will be removing the air vents at the top of the centre console.

Thanks Alfie & Fuzzer

I will give it a crack! I have actually removed the vents/console/ashtray etc a number of times so now becoming quite a pro!

Fuzzer, where did you locate the screen for your 3200?

It wasnt the parrot 3200ls that i fitted into my W203 , it was a nokia Cark91 using a dashmount mute lead.

But , as a suggestion , how about the small flat space just next to the passenger airbag . Should be ideal.

Big Thanks To Alfie And The Fuzz!

Ok Sorted took me 3 hours last night and a dropped vent screw down the central console which had me sweating for a bit (images of lifelong rattles) fortunately a magnetic screwdriver chanced upon it.

Was really quite simple and involves A pillar trim the whole central dashboard section and below glovebox trim. Behind COMAND are standard ISO plugs minus the +12v & ignition sense (big thumbs up to fuzzer) worked first time through the speakers with mute etc.. though did not synchronise the phonebook on N95 so spend half the install time again manually swapping my contacts.

I would highly recommend this kit and it is particularly easy to install esp. to non COMAND vehicle (with an extra iso conversion harness) voice clarity is superb and with most phones it will automatically sync over your contacts.

Let me know if anyone needs any help. particularly with the 203 trim issues.

And of course thanks to Alfie and especially Fuzzer for their help.

Cheers

Jacob

No worries :) glad to help.

in regards to the phonebook , see if this helps.

Might well do as it worked for my 9300 and i see there is a version for the N93.

Could be worth a try , its a small file you load onto the phone and it does the phonebook transfer push to the device on pairing and keeps it up to date. It sits in the background on the phone OS.

Nice one fuzzer,

I will try this tonight.:bannana:

Jacob,

I am in two minds as to fitting one myself. Would it have been to difficult to mount the display on the right hand side of the dash, above the vent ?
Also, what is it actually held to the dash with ?

As for the control box, how was that mounted.

Cheers
Adam

Hi Adam

Firsty great kit, I don't think you would have any regrets fitting this. Placing the display above the light switches would have involved removing some trim that hitherto I had not attmpted and there was no clear place for the display wire to exit (vent not a good idea as they are a very snug fit).

Control box was left behind the dash to the left of the COMAND, where there is loads of space (to the right there is no room) The mic was very simple (i had done it before for my old kit) and involves removing the A pillar trim (carefully so as not to snap the hooks) though this is not essential, Removing the mirror light cluster is not necessary at all. and the wire could be tucked under the leading edge of the rooflining and pulled back in to the roofling from where it meets the A pillar. I am very cautious when dealing with trim (a couple of bad experiences) and it would have taken an experienced fitter a lot quicker.

Overall relatively simple job primarily so due to Parrot's fantastic universal ISO harness.

Let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

Jacob

Hi Jacob,
Why did you go for that Parrot kit?
I have similar car to yourself and was not keen on having anything stuck to the dash.
I was thinking the 3000 evo kit + interface would display via comand screen and steering controls are retained.
The mic could be routed to rear-view mirror.

Great pics.

Hi Joe

My reasoning was this, I wanted to retain a display so as to be able to monitor calls, use the call register, signal strength etc.. The 3000 does not have a screen the 3100 does and is compatible with the Parrot Multican but is still an old kit and does not have the functions nor useability of the 3200.

I am certain that the interface (Multican) will not allow the phone to work visually through COMAND rather it will only allow you to use the steering wheel buttons (even then you get 'not in use messages' in instrument display), not great when the controller is 4" away from my right hand and it costs £60 odd. In any event they will be one brought out for the 3200 shortly which can be retrofitted.

Regards

Jacob
