Assuming the extended warranty website is functioning properly (Mercedes-Benz Extended Warranty cover), the cost of the warranty doesn't change with the mileage.. £2875/year whether it has 10,000 miles or 100,000 miles.

That’s interesting, if it’s now the same rate for any mileage. It looks like it’s bee achieved by putting the cost up across the board!

"don’t bother with warranty if you are not buying from a main dealer."... What do you mean? I'd most likely buy from a main dealer but surely a warranty is even more important if not from a main dealer.. Unless you're talking about those aftermarket warranties, but I'd never get one of those.

The garage that sold me my car signed me up with RAC 6 months free. Does anyone have experience of Rac?

I was speaking to a friend about warranties today. He's had a couple Aston Martins in the past with aftermarket warranties and had a few claims with no issues. His opinion is check the Ts & Cs and claim limit, check the exclusions, compare it to the Mercedes Ts and Cs and exclusions...and if you're happy then go for it.

Can these companies really wriggle out of paying if a part isn't excluded and you're below the claim limit?

I'm just wondering as when the time comes to find the right car, I'm going to be a little picky and there's a chance it doesn't come up at a main dealer.

I think I'd avoid a main dealer anyway, they surely charge over the odds for any car.
The way I looked at my purchase was a 3L V6 diesel S Class with only 18,500 miles on it was a good bet. Then there's Mercedes trained specialists to look after it..

Oh yeh, of course they charge over the odds. But then you get the peace of mind from approved used and the warranty with Mercedes. If the right C63 came up at both a main dealer and independent dealer/private, I'd pay a couple grand more to get the car from a main dealer. You've just got more protection that way.

Never rely on MB approved used. My ML350 (now sold) had a completed approved used checklist but when I went to collect it the car had quite a few issues such as chip on windscreen in drivers line of sight, 4 buckled wheels, missing load cover, rear nearside passenger door not locking and window mechanism faulty, bonnet front wing and drivers door needed respray due to stone chips and scratches and 2 tyres on wear bars plus some other issues. All fixed by the dealer but it took 4 months to complete. One more thing, when I bought the ML it had an A1 ??? registration but when I picked the car up the reg had been taken off, I should have created a fuss but didn't.

Wow that's terrible, but at least they sorted everything. If you had bought from an independent dealer, you probably would've been fobbed off or would've had to accept some of the defects.

Went to a main dealer over the weekend to test drive a C63 biturbo. Due to covid, they gave me the keys and off I went for half an hour..!

What an absolute beast and what an incredible car. Love everything about it.

That's exactly what happened to me but this was a couple of years ago. They gave me the keys, advised me on a route through the Yorkshire countryside and let me go off on my own. Turned out to be a great marketing tactic as I bought it the moment I arrived back in the car park.

Yes if driven very hard or driven hard in stop start traffic. In normal mixed driving it's typically high teens to low twenties and you can squeeze 30mpg+ on a low speed long run.

In 2 weeks of ownership i've seen 9.2mpg to 32.1mpg on my gauges. I wouldn't be too concerned, I could make my old 3 litre BiTDi Audi do 9mpg if I really wanted (particularly on cold mornings in traffic).
