Ordered Friday here Monday!!

Cant believe how quick the Hella delivery turned up!

Note the extra sensor

Now to try and get those pipes sorted

Just a thought would be nice to get a Oil pressure gauge working in the car, Humm...

Ok quick update, Brutus 1, Gav 0 ffs :( Warning to other's, if the connections on the lines are like mine you are ###### Had to use heat we got them undone, but tbh the 22mm alloy connector bit the dust and the steel part ended up distorted so we couldnt connect them to the New cooler.

I'm having to get a Hose n hydraulic's place make up new ends as Oe lines are just to much ££s, Also removal of the lines was a bi### atf line popped out of the rad and i lost around 500ml DEEP JOY.

Let the Saga continue.........

You are a machine!!!!

Well done, and keep going.. eventually you will have one monster of a car!!!!!

keep going Gav

I should have mentioned I had to purchase new lines as the same happened when MB tried to fit a new cooler under warranty, at the time it had a tier 2 warranty so the lines weren't covered but the cooler was!

at least you have the contacts to get stuff made up!

What a Crap day :/ 1st hose place couldn't get the correct size Unions/connectors, I then Had a trip to Colchester to Anglian Hose and Hydraulics who were very helpful, But due to the end of the Hose being shaped and the need to replace part of the lower rubber section they could only do this with a straight piece of pipe.

Now the Lower pipe is shape because it goes around the lower radiator bracket then twists up. They couldn't guarantee that the hose would be flexible enough and may crimp on itself which being a oil feed is not what you want to happen!

So i decided to bit the bullet and buy the correct hoses from Mercedes, £370 inc vat along with 2x new seals, Its coming from Germany maybe here friday.

Part number for those interested is: a211 500 00 75

And the seals a012 997 56 48

^ Bad luck mate. An unfortunate turn of luck for you and Brutus.

Just don't start replacing anything else:wallbash:

What a complete PITA ,how can Mercedes charge that for a hydraulic hose and seals,it's completely crazy,we used to use Pirtek they have mobile vans and a amazing selection of fittings and hoses, just keep your head up,this has to end soon and that beast will be back on the road.

I was hoping you wouldn't have to fork out for the pipe, but unfortunately it seems you have had to!

:(

The Cage and install

Heres the freshly painted cage ready for the cooler

cage1.jpg

I detached the rivit's holding the cowling on the old unit, Then using the plastic cowling an steel tabs on the new unit old i drilled 3 new support holes and bingo the cowling and fan fit perfectly to the new cooler.

And there she is all mounted just like the Oe one, i Cut a small section out of the side of the cage so the Sensor is still there, Just in case later i want to monitor Oil temps.

Looks good doesn't it?:thumb:

Now awaiting the Pipes from Mb, Thankyou all for the support i could have chanced the Repair of the old pipes, But why risk it when i've come this far? id hate for that engine to sieze, and knowing my luck it would.

Brutus Lives Again!!

So Brutus lives to fight another day, His on its last warning!

The install was dead easy, The new pipework dropped in from the top, connected it all up and brutus was running within the hour, Minimal fluid loss from the atf line, and Oil cooler. Topped up aprox 400ml and will obviously keep a eye on the levels.

I've driven it aprox 60miles and no leaks, Drive totally like new as you would expect. Also I've heard from Wheelbase alloys, They supplied the wrong spiggots from day 1.

They are suppling 2x New front wheels, and 4 new spiggots, Delivery wednesday.

Massive thanks to my Buddy dieselc220, Aka Karl, for all the Work helping me and putting up with my hissy fits pmsl:D

This is brutus and Karl's Face lifted 2004 e320 cdi, We have tweaked it btw so go's really well ;)

Pmsl, Yeah neck brace required me thinks lol:devil:

Nice to see the beast back on the road!
Good reaction from the wheel company too. They couldn't have done much more to keep a customer.

Wheel Bolt Holes and Spigots

This is why i dont like Spigot rings

Despite being torqued correctly and within sequence this is what happens when Incorrect spigot rings are used.

This is the worst one out of the 2 front wheels

faultwheel1.jpg

As you can see the bolt holes are elongated, the centre bore of the wheel is also worn, as you can see by the face of the wheel it's clean as its been moving around on the disc.

The bolts holes on the other wheel

faultwheel2.jpg

Although not as bad still worn.

Mileage covered around 2-3k

Wheelbase have admitted "more or less" sending out the incorrect spigot rings.

My wifes says im OTT / picky with my car's But the above shows why i am so, I could have just put up with the slight wheel wobble hum....

Great news on the wheels mate and fair play from Wheelbase alloys for sorting it out.

I guess with any situation like this, they need to check it's not someone trying to pull a fast one. Obviously they made a mistake, you were able to prove it wasn't something you've done, they've made good on it. Fair play.

Good to see the beast lives! :D
